5 Seconds Of Summer recently took home the award for “Song of the Summer” at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards this past weekend… talk about living up to your name!

The fan-voted category made its debut at this year’s VMAs and it was definitely a fight to the finish. 5SOS’ “She’s Kinda Hot” and Fifth Harmony’s “Worth-It” were neck-and-neck from the very beginning,  leaving all the other nominees in the dust. Harmonizers overtook the lead several times, but the 5SOS Fam proved they are a force to be reckoned with. Pulling in over 52 million votes, our favorite Aussie lads came out on top.

The quartet is currently on the North American leg of their Rock Out With Your Socks Out Tour so unfortunately, they weren’t able to accept the Moonman in person. Lead guitarist/vocalist, Luke Hemmings, took to his Twitter to thank their fans and even goes to mention this was the fans’ award. Bassist/vocalist Calum Hood chimed in as well tweeting, “Thank you thank you thank you for voting your asses off. This is so rad.”

The music video for the 2015 Song of the Summer has received nearly 12 million views in the past month. 5SOS have also made a new EP called She’s Kinda Hot (of course), which debuted in the top 10 UK Itunes chart. Even though the EP is only available in the UK, their forthcoming album isn’t! Sounds Good Feels Good, is set to be released on October 23rd, but if you pre-order now, you’ll receive 2 tracks (“Jet Black Heart” and “Fly Away”) right away.
