Last night the Top 8 on American Idol dwindled down to 6. There were duets and solos performed tonight. Each contestant had a light within them tonight that can’t be duplicated, you can tell all of them want it badly.
One duet stuck out to me tonight and that was Mackenzie Bourg and Dalton Rapattoni’s cover of “I Want it That Way” by The Backstreet Boys. The judges didn’t like the song choice and were disappointed they didn’t switch it up like both individual contestants usually do. Personally, I enjoyed it but I’m a sucker for a good boy band cover. Plus, it took me back to Mackenzie’s cover of “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction while on NBC’s The Voice. The song had a nice soft melody and it made me happy. I believe both boys did the best they could given they’re both very different artistically.

As the night progressed we started to learn who was safe and this led to the solo performances of the night. My favorite solo performance was Tristan McIntosh. A video of her grandfather was shown before her performance. He spoke about how supportive he is of her. I ugly cried and I’m not ashamed to admit that. Then, Tristan walked on stage and I believe the whole room lit up because she looked so stunning. She sang Martina McBride’s “A Broken Wing”. Yet again, I cried. Keith Urban told her she chose the right song and that he loved her grandfather being so supportive.

Also, 2015 American Idol winner, Nick Fradiani performed his new single “Get You Home“. He was full of stage presence and it was easy to see why he won. The song was full of energy and definitely made me want to dance.

Last nights battle was down to three contestants- Avalon Young, Lee Jean, and Sonika Vaid. Each had brought their own individuality to their performances singing songs such as,”Let It Be“, “PYT“, and “I Have Nothing“.
WARNING SPOILER ALERT:
My favorite performance was Avalon Young’s because she has so much charisma on stage. The judges, like myself were confused why she always ends up in the bottom three, but in the end the judges chose to save Sonika Vaid.
