American Idol XIV: Semi-Final Performance Night Recap – May 6, 2015 (@AmericanIdol #Idol)

American Idol XIV revealed its Top 3 contestants during its ninth week of live shows on Wednesday evening (May 6) at CBS Studios in Los Angeles, Calif.

The show kicked off with an announcement stating that the Top 4 contestants returned to their hometowns for a special performance and press tour. Special moments during each contestant’s visit was shown throughout the episode.

Tonight, Nick Fradiani, Clark Beckham, Jax, and Rayvon Owen performed three songs for America’s votes — one chosen by mentor Scott Borchetta, another chosen by the judges, and the final one tributing to the contestant’s hometown.

Rayvon Owen was the first contestant to perform for America’s votes. Owen performed Jason Derulo’s “Want You to Want Me,” chosen by Borchetta, “You Are So Beautiful,” chosen by the judges, and Stevie Wonder’s “As” for his tribute to Richmond, VA.

Following Owen was Clark Beckham, kicking off his string of performances with U2‘s “Beautiful Day,” chosen by Borchetta. Beckham also performed The Weeknd’s “Earned It,” chosen by the judges, and Otis Redding’s “The Dock of the Bay” for his tribute to Nashville, TN.

Nick Fradiani was the next contestant to sing for America’s votes, performing Bruce Springsteen’s “Because the Night,” chosen by Borchetta, “I’ll Be,” chosen by the judges, and Andy Grammer’s “Back Home” for his tribute to Guilford, CT.

The last contestant to take the stage was Jax, performing The Who’s “My Generation,” chosen by Borchetta, Paramore’s “Misery Business,” chosen by the judges, and Evanescence’s “My Immortal” for her tribute to East Brunswick, NJ.

After the 12 performances, it was time for host Ryan Seacrest to deliver the results; revealing the Top 3 contestants that will take part in the two-night Idol finale next week. Rayvon Owen was eliminated from the competition, meaning Nick Fradiani, Clark Beckham and Jax will be going to the finale and competing to become the next American Idol.
