The 15th and final American Idol is…

Tonight, one of our favorite series came to and end. We are devastated but American Idol The Series Finale did not disappoint by any means. The series finale was stacked from start to finish with pyrotechnics and surprise visits from our favorite Idol contestants and our favorite Idol auditions. If you missed it have no fear we’ve got the recap for you!

The show started off with the two finalists, Trent Harmon and La’Porsha Renae, and all Idol contestants past and present singing “One Voice“. Then we had the pleasure of seeing the two finalists perform “It Takes Two” by Marvin Gaye just like the series two first seasons finalists – Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson did.  Both contestants showed us exactly why they were in the finale with this killer performance.

The show kept up the heat when the Idol favorites took the stage. We had rock favorites, country favorites, soul favorites, pop favorites and the three divas come back and take the stage. These performances reminded viewers just why American Idol has been loved for so many years. Past Idol icons such as Jordin Sparks, Justin Guarini, Katherine McPhee, Ruben Studdard, Elliott Yamin, Bucky Covington and many more took the stage!

Our favorite and most shocking moment of the night was when William Hung hit the stage with “She Bangs” originially done by Ricky Martin but we all remember this as  Hungs Idol audition. That song was stuck in our heads for months to come and for some of us even years. Now, we have the pleasure of singing it for the next few weeks to ourselves in the grocery store line.

We were also surprised with a duet from judge, Keith Urban and American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood. Urban teased us by saying he would be performing with a special guest. We were very pleased to see it was Carrie. The two lit up the room with, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart.” JLo shook the stage after that with her new single “I Ain’t Your Mama“. Harry Connick Jr. then took the stage with Marley Fletcher singing “What A Wonderful World“.

Another highlight of this series finale was the David Bowie special. The five men chosen for this honor were, Phillip Phillips, Lee Dewyze, Nick Fradiani, David Cook, and Kris Allen. All five had their guitars strapped on and a mic in front of them and just sang their hearts out to a Bowie medley. This tribute was brilliant.

Just when we thought all the excitement was over, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson came to the stage and gave Ryan Seacrest the American Idol sign since he was the only one to stay throughout all fifteen seasons. When asked where he was going to put it he replied with, “probably on my nightstand, but we aren’t too sure it’ll fit there.” The two past judges talked about their favorite moments on idol with Abdul saying hers was hitting Simon Cowell. AND to everyone’s surprise, Cowell made an entrance from upstage behind the three. Nobody thought he was coming! It wasn’t a shock just to us, but everyone there.

After all the excitement we couldn’t wait to find out who our next American Idol was going to be, until we remembered this is their last season. After much anticipation Ryan Seacrest was handed the envelope and left us with the dreaded pause, “The winner of American Idol Season 15 is…” We had to wait too, so remember before we tell you, we hope you voted for your favorite…” The winner of American Idol Season 15 is…Trent Harmon!”

“Goodnight, America…for now,” Seacrest said, signing off.

American Idol will go down in history but something makes us believe the shows creator Simon Fuller isn’t finished with singing competitions just yet.
