We’re sure many teenage girls are getting their hearts broken across the country because singer and Vine sensation Shawn Mendes may not be up for grabs anymore. Just yesterday, a source confirmed to E! News that the “Stitches” singer is dating Fifth Harmony’s Camila Cabello. However, the reports have suddenly changed a few hours ago saying that the two are “just friends…”
It’s been said they have been friends for a while now and had gotten to know each other better while Mendes toured with Austin Mahone and Fifth Harmony last year. The E! News story states that, “The insider adds that the pair really like each other and laugh nonstop when their together.”
Both singers attended the iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vegas this weekend where Shawn Mendes crashed Cabello’s red carpet interview with E! News and then began exchanging flirty conversation. The 18-year-old “Worth It” singer admitted that Mendes was jealous of her former relationship with 19-year-old singer-songwriter Austin Mahone. Cabello said to the reporter, “While we were on tour, Austin and I were dating and Shawn was just kind of being a loaner!” She joked before adding, “Yeah he was so jealous and he couldn’t come out on stage because he was just seething rage and crying blood.”
Even though the two have not officially announced their status, there have been plenty of Instagram posts of the two singers on Cabello’s account. According to E! News, the rumors of the couple dating started last month when Mendes tweeted that he’s “going to try to learn Spanish again” to which Camila replied, “don’t worry, you’ll learn fast because you have an INCREDIBLE Spanish teacher whose name rhymes with Vamila Carmello.”
UPDATE: More reports have surfaced saying that the two are “just friends.” Camila taped an interview with Ryan Seacrest set to air on Wednesday (September 23) in which she shoots down rumors that they are dating. A source close to PEOPLE also stated that the pair are good friends despite the E! report.
