Asher Angel isn’t letting the Coronavirus rain on his parade.
The 17-year-old actor, singer, and songwriter has probably been at his busiest during this global pandemic as he’s released his new single “Guilty” and a brand-new magazine, in addition to being the only performer during the 2020 Kids’ Choice Awards that happened earlier this month.
“As hard as it is for me at times I would have to say [my favorite memory is] the downtime,” Asher tells Celeb Secrets about his time in quarantine. “Playing Frisbee, board games and movie nights with the family. Before the pandemic I was on the road a lot, living in different cities filming or on tour performing, so it has been nice to just be at home. Although I am very ready to get back out there!”
Celeb Secrets sits down (virtually) with the 17-year-old to talk about his new music and spending time at home, while opening up to his fans in his new magazine in both English and Spanish.

Celeb Secrets: Congrats on the release of your new song “Guilty!” The song shows a more mature side of you that people haven’t seen from you until now. Can you talk to us about the process behind choosing the song and why now was the perfect time to do so?
Asher Angel: “Thank you. I want my music to connect with listeners the same way it connects with me. ‘Guilty’ is a love song gone wrong and everybody experiences that at some point in their life. Releasing ‘Guilty’ felt like a natural progression to my sound and is a song that I also love to perform acoustically.”
CS: What do you hope fans take away from listening to the track?
AA: “First, I hope they like the vibe of the record. For me, there is empowerment and freedom that comes with the hook. I hope fans can take away something similar.
CS: We know that the video was filmed in quarantine, however, do you have any behind-the-scenes secrets from working on it that we wouldn’t know?
AA: “My favorite behind the scenes moment was when Kylie accidentally “sat” on a cactus. That was really funny – since she didn’t get hurt. Also, scouting for all the locations and bringing our sweeping landscape vision to reality was very rewarding.”
CS: Is “Guilty” a taste of what we’re going to expect sonically from upcoming original music?
AA: “I like to think that I don’t have to define or limit my music to a specific genre or category. I want to continue writing and recording music that means something to me and hopefully connects with my fans. Sonically, it is in line with music that I will continue to put out but I expose myself to lots of sounds that I connect to and want to continue to explore.”
CS: You’ve been keeping busy during the pandemic, as you’ve been making appearances on numerous livestreams and even performed at the KCAs earlier this month. What’s been your favorite thing you’ve done while spending time at home?
AA: “As hard as it is for me at times I would have to say the downtime. Playing Frisbee, board games and movie nights with the family. The simple things really. Before the pandemic I was on the road a lot. Living in different cities filming or on tour performing. It has been nice to just be at home. Although I am very ready to get back out there!”
CS: What’s been the biggest challenge while working on these projects from home?
AA: “Sometimes I feel disconnected and isolated and that’s been hard. Even though I have my family around I miss being out and about – seeing people and connecting with them. That’s definitely been the hardest part for me.”
CS: Lastly, you just dropped a new fanzine where you’re opening up to your fans about some of your biggest projects as well as being in the spotlight (in both English and Spanish). What was that process like for you and do you have a favorite memory from making the magazine?
AA: “The fan magazine was so much fun to create. I wanted to do something that kept me connected with my fans during this time. To provide them with some exclusive content and really let them deep dive into my life. It took a long time to create and I spent a lot of time on it. So between Andi Mack, Shazam!, my family and my life – there was a lot to share – including, a dream analyzer. In the end, the magazine is 60+ pages of new content that I hope connects my relationship with my fans on a deeper and more meaningful level.”
