Ava Max and Bishop Briggs Heat Up the VMA’s with Epic Pre-Party

While we may not find out who all the big winners are at the 2019 MTV VMAs ‘til the show Monday night, MTV started the shenanigans a few days early with an epic pre-party concert in New York City’s Lower East Side this weekend.

On Saturday night (August 24), music fans gathered to Webster Hall for drinks, eats, and sets from Ava Max and Bishop Briggs. Indie-pop songstress Briggs took the stage first to perform hits like “River” and “Wild Horses,” and candidly spoke to the crowd about the inspiration behind many of her songs.

By the time “Best New Artist” nominee Ava Max began her set, the venue was packed to the brim with eager Avatars, aka fans of the singer. Despite having spent the morning performing and doing press at the US Open’s Arthur Ashe Kids Day, Max was all smiles as she gave energetic performances of her songs “Torn,” “So Am I,” and more, plus a surprise cover of Alicia Keys “Fallin’.” After closing out the show with her biggest hit, “Sweet But Psycho,” Max told the crowd that she would “See you at the VMAs!”

While the newcomer isn’t scheduled to perform during the actual awards show, she is slated to take the stage at the event’s pre-show Monday afternoon. After Briggs’ and Max’s killer sets, a DJ took over, spinning the hottest tracks of the last decade for the rest of the night as guests danced and partied.
