Beabadoobee Releases New EP “Our Extended Play” (Listen)

Beabadoobee is ready to kick off the summer with a brand new EP, music video, and upcoming tour dates! Her latest EP, Our Extended Play, drops today (June 23).

Following her debut album Fake It Flowers, the Filipino-British singer does not disappoint with this fresh collection of tunes. Co-written with and produced by Matty Healy and George Daniel of The 1975, the artists take us on a whirlwind of emotions with four stellar tracks.

The first song, “Last Day On Earth,” is the perfect opener for the record. Bea sings about the things that she would’ve done if she had known that the world was going to change forever. The light and playful “shoop-doop, shoop-doo, badoobadoo” in the chorus is without a doubt a highlight. In the lyrics she says, “I want to get f***ed up at home, be naked alone, and turn up my phone because this song I wrote is just so f***ing sick.”

“Cologne,” which is the newest single, details themes of insecurity and self-confidence. At the beginning, the singer questions if she’s attractive or good enough, which are all too familiar feelings. Towards the end, she scraps those ideas and comes to the realization that she is all of those qualities. Self-love comes out on top!

For the music video, Bea teams up with The Rest to showcase an exciting narrative. On the collaboration, she said, “Making the music video for ‘Cologne’ was so much fun. I worked with The Rest who I knew from their work with Slowthai. We wanted to make an action movie with a load of my friends so that’s what we did!”

The third track, “Animal Noises,” is a sweet-sounding ballad that explores the fears of getting older. With this song, Bea fully encapsulates the nostalgia of youth and the concept of being on your own. She sings, “I miss the mornings I spent making animal noises with you. I just need someone to hold but I guess that I’m getting too old, something I keep getting told.”

“He Gets Me High” is reminiscent of songs by The 1975, which makes sense as it was originally created by the band. If you listen closely, you can even hear a surprise call and response verse sung by Healy. The catchy and upbeat closing tune is all about those times where you depend on unhealthy people or things a little too much. She reassures that those situations happen to the best of us.

On the process of making the EP, Bea said, “This EP was made in a really collaborative way during a time where it was really difficult to do that and I feel so lucky to have gotten to make it with my band and Matty and George. I hope it can bring people together in some way, that’s really what these songs are about, that feeling of togetherness that’s been missing a lot in the last year. It feels like a bridge to what’s coming next too.”

The singer is heading out on the road this year for a headlining tour in the U.S.! Her supporting acts will be Christian Leave and BLACKSTARKIDS. General tickets go on sale on June 25 at 10:00 AM local time. Click HERE to find out more details. Check out the list of dates below.
