The moment we’ve been waiting for all Fashion Week has arrived — Calvin Luo’s fall/winter collection for 2019 is FINALLY here!
Showcasing the looks at Spring Studios in New York on Wednesday (February 13), Luo’s FW19 collection pays homage to New York City of the late 80s and early 90s. While the fashion of both decades could not be further apart, the transition from power dresser and punk to grunge and “denim all” captivated Luo’s attention.
Throughout the presentation, special guests saw exaggerated volumes transitioning into studied minimalism with a layered line up of signature wool coats and jackets, multi straps dresses and tees, and strong denim and colorful knitwear make their way across the runway. They even saw a ton of vinyl and sequins, which really nod to the excesses of New York City in the 80s.
Something that we loved about the presentation was that we were able to see all versions of each look, as Luo displayed both men’s and women’s pieces on the runway. Sticking to his theme of female empowerment, Luo’s collection continues to tell the story of a strong independent woman, enhanced in femininity, now accompanied by a man confident in celebrating her.
