Carlisle Makes New York Fashion Week Debut with “Folk Dandy” Inspired Collection

While we love to see our go-to brands showcase their new collections on the runway, one of our favorite things about New York Fashion Week is to discover new and emerging designers to add to our list of favorites and fashion inspiration.

On Tuesday (February 13), luxury brand Carlisle made its NYFW debut with a special runway show at Pier 59 Studios inside Chelsea Piers. Designed by newly-appointed creative director Fred Tutino (formerly of Ellie Tahari), the fall/winter 2018 collection is bound to make a statement in the industry and become a fan favorite to fashion lovers around the world.

“I am so excited for Carlisle’s NYFW debut,” creative director Fred Tutino told us backstage before the presentation. “I think it’s great for the brand. With the recent e-commerce launch and store opening on Chicago’s Oak Street, I think it’s good for Carlisle to speak to the outside world with this major runway debut.”

Teaming up with A-list stylist Micaela Erlanger (Lupita Nyong’o, Meryl Streep) for some fall flair, the luxury ready-to-wear label showcased 37 looks from Tutino’s inspiration “Folk Dandy” – a concept which mixes an English eccentric’s Saville Row tailoring with a Balkan’s folk spirit.

“Every season is different, and I think you can get a vibe from what’s happening in the world. For me, I call this collection ‘Folk Dandy’ because it’s inspired by British menswear Saville Row while mixing fabric, checks and plaids, which are all huge trends this season,” Tutino shared with us exclusively of the line. “I always like to mix it with something feminine, so the line is kind of Bohemian-inspired prints and embroideries mixed with a little bit of street sportswear.”

The collection is filled with classic fabrics (raffia tweeds, wool, houndstooth), rich embellishments and folkloric touches. There’s also two evening gowns in the mix, which are described by the brand as “equally sophisticated as they are romantic to lend a little drama for a special night out.”

“I think my favorite pieces have to be the reversible doubleface plaid wool coat (pictured above) and fully backless evening gown with the high ruffle collar (pictured below),” Tutino shared. “I just love them so much.”
