Celeb Secrets Predicts the Winners for the 2017 MTV VMAs

There is never a shortage of excitement when the annual MTV Video Music Awards arrive, and we expect the 2017 VMAs to be packed with energetic performances, big acceptance speeches, and more iconic moments in pop culture.

Some of our all-time favorite artists like Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Fifth Harmony, Miley Cyrus, Shawn Mendes, Twenty One Pilots, The Weeknd, Big Sean, Calvin Harris, and many more are all up for different awards, so you know that the evening is going to feature many well-deserved honors.

Even though votes have already been cast for this year’s MTV VMA winners, Celeb Secrets thought it would be fun to try our hand at predicting the latest moonman winners. Will we be right on the money, or way off? Scroll through to see our best guesses, and tune in to the show this Sunday, August 27 at 8 PM to see how it really plays out!

Best New Artist: Julia Michaels, Khalid, Kodak Black, Noah Cyrus, SZA, and Young M.A.

WHO WE THINK WILL WIN: Many song streaming predictors are calling this one for Kodak Black, and it certainly wouldn’t be at all surprising for him to take home this award. But we’re personally thinking that Julia Michaels will be recognized for her impressive debut solo work, as the songwriter has been taking over the music industry from behind the scenes for a long time now!

Song of Summer: “Despacito (Remix),” Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee ft. Justin Bieber; “Down,” Fifth Harmony ft. Gucci Mane; “OMG,” Camila Cabello ft. Quavo; “Shape of You,” Ed Sheeran; “Sorry Not Sorry,” Demi Lovato; “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back,” Shawn Mendes; “Wild Thoughts,” DJ Khaled ft. Rihanna and Bryson Tiller; “XO Tour Llif3,” Lil Uzi Vert.

WHO WE THINK WILL WIN: This is the literal toughest category. All of these songs and artists deserve it. But we’re going to have to pick “Despacito,” as the song has been played absolutely EVERY.WHERE. this summer.

Video of the Year: Alessia Cara, “Scars To Your Beautiful”; Bruno Mars, “24K Magic”; DJ Khaled ft. Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, “Wild Thoughts”; Kendrick Lamar, “HUMBLE”; The Weeknd, “Reminder.”

WHO WE THINK WILL WIN: Again, this is a total close one, but YouTube and Spotify data suggests that it’s a toss-up between Kendrick and Bruno. We’re picking Bruno, simply because “24K Magic” has over 815 million views, making it ALL about the video.

Artist of the Year: Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar, Lorde, The Weeknd.

WHO WE THINK WILL WIN: Video views wise, we see this for Ed, but in terms of votes and influence, we’re still predicting Kendrick to pick up this win.

Best Collaboration: Calvin Harris ft. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, and Big Sean, “Feels”; Charlie Puth ft. Selena Gomez, “We Don’t Talk Anymore”; D.R.A.M. ft. Lil Yachty, “Broccoli”; DJ Khaled ft. Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, “Wild Thoughts”; The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey, “Closer”; Zayn and Taylor Swift, “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever.”

WHO WE THINK WILL WIN: “Wild Thoughts” is up for so many VMAs, but since it rules as a collaboration, we can see it taking this category, even with all of the other deserving artists nominated here!

Best Pop: Ed Sheeran, “Shape Of You”; Fifth Harmony ft. Gucci Mane, “Down”; Harry Styles, “Sign of the Times”; Katy Perry ft. Skip Marley, “Chained To the Rhythm”; Miley Cyrus, “Malibu”; Shawn Mendes, “Treat You Better.”

WHO WE THINK WILL WIN: Man, the competition in these categories doesn’t get any easier, does it? “Shape Of You” is sure to be honored at the 2017 VMAs, so this would totally be its time.

Best Hip Hop: Big Sean, “Bounce Back”; Chance the Rapper, “Same Drugs”; D.R.A.M. ft. Lil Yachty, “Broccoli”; DJ Khaled ft. Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper, and Lil Wayne, “I’m The One”; Kendrick Lamar, “HUMBLE”; Migos ft. Lil Uzi Vert, “Bad & Boujee.”

WHO WE THINK WILL WIN: So many amazing options here, but you can’t go wrong with Kendrick Lamar.

Best Dance: Afro Jack ft. Ty Dolla $ign, “Gone”; Calvin Harris, “My Way”; Kygo ft. Selena Gomez, “It Ain’t Me”; Major Lazer ft. Justin Bieber & MØ, “Cold Water”; Zedd and Alessia Cara, “Stay.”

WHO WE THINK WILL WIN: YouTube is predicting “Cold Water,” and we wholeheartedly second the motion!

Best Rock: Coldplay, “A Head Full of Dreams”; Fall Out Boy, “Young and Menace”; Foo Fighters, “Run”; Green Day, “Bang Bang”; Twenty One Pilots, “Heavydirtysoul.”

WHO WE THINK WILL WIN: We can predict the TOP fandom coming out hard to support this song, and YouTube and Spotify streaming numbers place this band ahead as well.

Best Fight Against the System: Alessia Cara, “Scars To Your Beautiful”; Big Sean, “Light”; John Legend, “Surefire”; The Hamilton Mixtape, “Immigrants (We Get the Job Done)”; Logic ft. Damian Lemar Hudson, “Black SpiderMan”; Taboo ft. Shailene Woodley, “Stand Up / Stand N Rock #NoDAPL.”

WHO WE THINK WILL WIN: This is an incredibly important and really powerful category, and any of these groundbreaking songs and videos could earn the title. In terms of video reach and views, we’re calling it for Alessia, but who could be mad to see any of these artists honored?
