Cheyenne Jackson and Booboo Stewart Talk Continuing the Magic with “Descendants: The Royal Wedding” (Exclusive)

Calling all fans back to Auradon! The Descendants story continues with the release of Descendants: The Royal Wedding.

While fans may have thought the story was completed as they knew it in 2019, the captivating plot line of heroes and villains isn’t over yet. This time around, the Descendants franchise has released an animated special that invites viewers to Mal and King Ben’s wedding — that is if Hades doesn’t put a stop to their big day.

In an exclusive interview with Celeb Secrets, Cheyenne Jackson and Booboo Stewart share that the opportunity to continue to tell the story is an honor for both of them.

“It felt good! I joined this group later, so I didn’t have as much emotional investment but I quickly loved everybody and became part of the family,” said Jackson. “So yeah, I wasn’t sure how much more they could do with the story, but I was really happy that they were able to create a special that can kind of satisfy, tie up these loose ends, honor Cameron, have a great new song and really just be this great closing chapter of this adventure for people.”

“After Descendants 3, I think everybody was like, ‘That’s it,’ you know? It was just such a great experience,” added Stewart. “Descendants 3 was so much fun and it was my favorite one. But yeah very reluctant to continue the story, but after reading what our special is, it is so great  and so emotional and so just, it really, really is a powerful piece. It’s amazing. Cheyenne was saying earlier that they’ve packed so much into this short special. It’s really impressive and it’s a beautiful, beautiful piece.”

While fans can anticipate the same incredible characters and an edge-of-your-seat storyline, the way in which fans will be receiving these things will be in the form of animation.

“…you know, animation has its challenging bits,” said Stewart. “You aren’t in your wardrobe,  you aren’t on set, you know, you’re not speaking to the actor and so you show up, and especially for this during COVID, we’re in a room by ourselves and a screen in front of us with everybody on Zoom, the director and the music and everybody’s just watching us. You’re kind of giving a performance just really like trusting that you’re getting the right direction. It’s really fun because you get to play around with the levels of what you want to do and it’s full on imagination.”

As the Descendants fanbase has come to know, the incredible cast never misses when it comes to delivering a fantastic result.
