Clinton John Takes Self Growth Head On With New Single “Cool B4 I Met You” (Premiere)

Going and growing through your 20s can be hard, and for Nashville-based pop artist Clinton John, the chapter was no easy read. It wasn’t until some reflection took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, that the singer-songwriter was able to harness the best version of himself.

Through self-realization, self-growth and self-found power, John now not only produced a new person, but also a new song that you can check out exclusively on Celeb Secrets today.

“‘Cool b4 I Met You‘ is about the natural growing pains of going through your early 20’s and the onset of anxiety and depression while trying keep up appearances and come off as cool on the outside,” John said. “During the pandemic, I had some time to realize that I needed to go to therapy and stop drinking. This song is about how that journey feels and at the beginning it feels very uncool because you have to strip yourself back and force your ego to take a back seat to really grow and start healing.”

From feeling to healing and all the tough tasks in between, the self-growth did not stop for John as a young adult, but as an artist. The new track steps outside John’s previous themes to new bounds.

According to a press release, “‘Cool B4 I Met You’ is actually the first song Clinton has released that isn’t about a relationship, making it one of the most difficult to write since the focus was entirely on himself.”

The track sports raw and vulnerable lyrics with an infectious pop tune to follow. It doesn’t just deliver sonically — the “Cool B4 I Met U” music video gives even more meaning to such a powerful song.

“For this video, we wanted to portray a persona that I tried to put on to the world,” John said. “This over-the-top, performative character that I used to put on to get attention and mask my issues and emotions. I realized I used this as an escape from feeling vulnerable and we wanted to break that down in the video.”

Through enticing shots and colorful hues, John keeps viewers glued to this visual piece. Fans can anticipate more music and music videos from John, as he gears up to release his debut EP, Embarrassing, Nov., 19, 2021.

“My favorite moment from making this new EP was the co-writing process and production of the songs,” John said. “I was lucky to work with incredible songwriters like Myylo, Kat Saul, Chelsea Balan, Robyn Dell’Unto, Will McBeath, Greg Graves and Corook who all saw my vision and really pushed me to be more honest and vulnerable in the songwriting process.”

As John has held a mirror up to himself during his early twenties, the artist shares that this new album serves to set that mirror down and move forward.

“This EP feels like both opening and closing of doors for me,” John said. “It feels like a closing of the door on my early 20’s, my first relationship, and the mistakes I’ve made that I’ve grown and learned from and also feels like the opening of doors for the rest of my career. The EP has really shaped and made me realize the type of music that feels the most authentic to me and I’m excited for all the music left to come.”

While we simply will have to stay patient for his new EP, fans can enjoy “Cool B4 I Met U” today!
