Darcy Sharpe Wins His First X Games Gold Medal at Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle Competition

Saturday was a big day for Darcy Sharpe.

The 23-year-old snowboarder took home his first-ever X Games gold medal during the Jeep Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle at X Games Aspen 2020 this weekend. Focusing on heavy tricks through the rail section, a frontside triple cork 1440 Indy and a backside triple cork 1440, the win also marks Sharpe’s first medal since 2018, where he placed second in the same discipline.

X Games Aspen 2020 Day 3 Recap – January 25, 2020

Sharpe made the jump from seventh place to the top spot in his fourth run of the competition. He  was able to hold off the defending silver medalist Mons Roisland, who again earned silver, and Red Gerard who took bronze, his first X Games Aspen medal.

“It was super stressful up there. My energy was a little low because I was having a rough go. Even though I was landing some stuff here and there I wasn’t landing top to bottom runs like I wanted to,” Sharpe tells our reporters at the base of Buttermilk Mountain. “It was stressful, but I put on the music, closed my eyes and imagined what it would feel like landing and having a medal and all that business.”

Celeb Secrets chatted with Darcy right after winning the gold medal to talk about his winning run, the new jam session format and how he plans which tricks he will do in competition.

“I absolutely love the new format because from a kid’s perspective, you get to see more snowboarding. And that’s awesome,” he said. “It changes the headset because it’s less pressure. When it comes to the last run, you know it’s the last run. When it’s jam, you’re like, ‘hey I got some time’ so maybe that’s why we aren’t landing as much. But other guys were landing as much, so it’s a trip.”
