The trailer for the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid animated reboot is finally here!
The movie will premiere on the streaming service during the holiday season, fans can expect to see their favorite characters from the series, such as Greg Heffley and Rowley Jefferson in an all-new adventure.
The coming-of-age story, as revealed by Disney, will follow Greg (played by Brady Noon), a scrawny but ambitious kid with an active imagination and big plans to be rich and famous – who just has to survive middle school first. To make matters worse, Greg’s lovable best friend Rowley (played by Ethan James Childress), seems to coast through life and succeed at everything without even trying! As details of his hilarious – and often disastrous – attempts to fit in fill the pages of his journal, Greg learns to appreciate true friends and the satisfaction that comes from standing up for what is right.
As showcased in the trailer, we can see the iconic and dreaded “cheese touch” being referenced all throughout. Multiple scenes also show Greg, sitting in classrooms while participating in middle school shenanigans. Appearances from his parents and older brother, Rodrick, can be seen as they deal with meddling chaos in the Heffley house. Of course, the movie can’t be complete without Rowley and Greg going on a Halloween conquest.
This movie is based off the first book in the worldwide bestselling series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid developed by author, Jeff Kinney. In addition to the books, the story became a world-wide phenomenon with the release of a few live-action films back in 2010 all following the first three books.
Disney’s adaptation will be directed by Swinton Scott with Kinney serving as writer and producer. Some the stars include voices of Brady Noon (The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers) as Greg Heffley, Ethan William Childress (mixed-ish) as Rowley Jefferson, and Chris Diamantopoulos (“Silicon Valley”) as Frank Heffley.
