Identity and human connection are big issues that need to be properly addressed on television, and Almost Family is doing it in the best way possible.
Directed by Leslye Headland (“Russian Doll”) and filmed in New York City, Almost Family follows only child Julia Bechley (played by Brittany Snow), who finds her life turned upside down when her father, Leon Bechley (Timothy Hutton), reveals that, over the course of his prize-winning career as a pioneering fertility doctor, used his own genetic material to conceive upwards of dozens of children.
Reeling from this explosive revelation, Julia discovers two new sisters – former best friend Edie Palmer (Megalyn Echikunwoke) and ex-Olympic athlete Roxy Doyle (Emily Osment). As these three young women begin to embrace their new reality, Julia must figure out what life is like without Leon by her side. Against all odds, the three women will attempt to form a bond as sisters, even as they must welcome a tidal wave of new siblings into their rapidly expanding family.

When speaking with Osment at the PaleyFest Fall TV Previews last week, the actress made certain to tell our reporters that the sensitive topics discussed throughout the show are being carefully handled while showing both sides of the story justice.
“This is happening right now in the news which is horrible and terrifying,” she tells Celeb Secrets. “A lot of people are having their lives ripped apart and we’re being careful with that when we’re dealing with it. Our writers are doing it justice and showing both sides because we know that this is happening in real life.”
In addition to teasing the storyline, the 27-year-old exclusively told us that Michael Urie will be guest starring in upcoming episodes. While we don’t have the full details yet on what his character will be like, we know that he’ll do an amazing job portraying the role.
Almost Family premieres on Wednesday, October 2nd @ 9PM on FOX.
