EXCLUSIVE: Our Day at the 2017 Kids’ Choice Sports Awards

From the Olympic Games to the ESPY Awards, there are many other events that honor today’s athletes. The most recent is Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Sports Awards, which the Celeb Secrets staff had the pleasure of attending last week!

Launched in 2014, the Kids’ Choice Sports Awards celebrates kids and families’ love of sports and top professional athletes.  With special guests and outrageous competitions, the one-of-a-kind event was bursting with fun, unforgettable moments, epic slimings and sheer ‘fan’-demonium that can only happen on Nickelodeon.

2017 Kids’ Choice Sports Awards – FULL COVERAGE

On Thursday (July 13) I joined our editor Jozie along with our social media rep Joe and we made our way to UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion for the 2017 Kids’ Choice Sports Awards. It was our third year attending the event together, so we knew what to expect when it came to celebs, athletes, and of course the big show!

The KCS carpet is probably one of the most interactive carpets I’ve ever been on. The orange carpet is filled with sports stations as well as celebs, athletes, press, and special guests. The one thing that makes it so different and exciting is that Nickelodeon is one of the only networks that include the main reason why the show happens; the kids. Kids were placed in little pockets around the winding carpet, giving them the ability to see athletes such as Russel Westbrook, Michael Phelps, Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, Shaun White, Marshawn Lynch, Michael Strahan, and Gabby Douglas up close as well as grab some selfies.

Our orange carpet experience was so much fun! We talked to a bunch of Nick stars and athletes, including the casts of Henry Danger (Sean Ryan Fox, Ella Anderson, Riele Downs) Dude Perfect, and Game Shakers (Madisyn Shipman, Cree Cicchino, Kel Mitchell), Lilimar, Lizzy Greene, Jessie Paege, Kyla Drew, LaurDIY, Karina Garcia, Lance Lim, Tampa Bay Rays’ pitcher Chris Archer, and Olympic athlete Shaun White.

You can watch all of our interviews from the orange carpet via the playlist below:

The best interview of the afternoon had to be with Shaun White. White is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and pretty much the king of snowboarding. He also has over 18 medals from X Games Aspen, and 5 medals from X Games Los Angeles. Talk about a jack of all trades!

In our interview, White talked about the progression of his sport, whether or not he’ll be competing in either the Winter or Summer Olympic Games, and the future for his snowboarding competition and music festival Air + Style.

After the orange carpet, we headed inside the venue to catch the big show. You can check out some of our favorite moments (and winners) from KCS here.

We want to thank Nickelodeon for inviting us to KCS this year, as well as putting on another incredible show! We can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year.
