Fulton Lee is gearing up for the release of the music video for his latest single “White Skates” and Celeb Secrets has your first look!
The feel-good anthem — which he says is the “most complete track [he’s] ever made” — embodies the singer/songwriter’s original “bubblegum funk” sound while blending the sounds of 50’s rock and modern pop.
“‘White Skates’ is the most complete track we’ve ever made,” Lee tells Celeb Secrets in an exclusive interview. “It went through over two years of on-and-off revisions, adding and subtracting layers of instrumentation and perfecting melodies, but even from the beginning, me and my crew could always hear magic in this song.”
For those who aren’t familiar, Lee is a retro soul/pop artist who initially wrote and performed original music to honor the sounds of 50s rock n roll performers like Little Richard and James Brown.
The 22-year-old Nashville-based artist has since evolved his creative vision into his own modernized take on that same classic style. The result is a uniquely fresh sound and aesthetic, combining foundations of vintage soul with the sweet, infectious pop melodies that come naturally bursting from the young performer’s larger-than-life personality.
Lee hopes that after people listen to the song, they “sense that colorful energy that inspired us through the whole process.”
“I hope people can hear the hours we spent flow-state-head-bopping while mixing, editing, and adding synth layers,” he says. “The aggressive car dance parties we had listening to mixes of this song! I hope they hear that energy.”
The video, which you can watch exclusively on Celeb Secrets today (March 17), showcases the Nashville-based artist’s retro pop sound by bringing the nostalgia from the moment it begins. Taking place at an arcade with tons of pinball machines, “White Skates” shows Lee go from “drool” to “cool” while in an epic matchup against the “it crowd.”
As for what’s next, Lee promises that new music will be released later this year, with “White Skates” being the first cut from his debut, full-length record, Sonny Boy, which is solely funded by his fans.
