Good Charlotte is officially back and better than ever!

After announcing their reunion last year, fans have been eagerly awaiting new music and it’s finally here! The Maryland native rockers recently dropped the lyric video for “40 oz. Dream”  which is the lead single off their forthcoming album, Youth Authority. It made its world premiere on Monday (April 4th) and within the first few seconds, it immediately brought us back to 2003. The vivid, and intriguing video was directed by Benji Madden (rhythm guitarist/vocalist), Joel Madden (lead vocalist), and their older brother Josh Madden.

“For us ’40 oz. Dream’ was the perfect song to kick off our new album”

-Benji Madden (lead guitarist/vocalist) tells Rolling Stone

The nostalgic tune recalls the band’s humble beginning back when pop-punk first hit the scene and Eazy-E was still on MTV. Josh Madden says he drew (or should I say colored) inspiration from Shea Serrano’s (writer/artist) coloring book for adults. He said in an interview with Rolling Stone that when they first played him the track, Serrano’s work was the first thing that came to his head. It makes us realize just how much music has changed over the years and how awesome the 90s were. The song reminds me of 5 Seconds of Summer’s “She’s Kinda Hot”, but with Good Charlotte’s classic sound. But it’s really no surprise that these two bands sound alike considering how closely they’ve worked together in the past. The Madden Brothers even made a guest appearance during 5SOS’ Rock Out With Your Socks Out Tour last year. All around, I thoroughly enjoyed the tune and can’t wait to hear more from their first album in nearly a decade!

Not only will this iconic band be joining the lineup of the Vans Warped Tour 2016 this summer, but they recently announced five one-night only gigs.
