Gus Kenworthy competes in the Men’s Ski SuperPipe Eliminations on Buttermilk Mountain at X Games Aspen 2015 Friday evening (January 23) in Aspen, Colorado.
The 23-year-old freestyle skier placed first in the elimination round by landing some of the most technical combos in the history of the sport, including left and right 10’s and a huge alley-oop double flat spin 9. Lyman Currier and Kevin Rolland trailed behind Kenworthy in second and third, respectively.
Gus will also be competing in the Men’s Ski Slopestyle Finals (tomorrow afternoon) and GoPro’s Ski Big Air competition.
CS4U caught up with Kenworthy moments after he received his winning score. In our interview, Gus talks about qualifying first in Men’s Ski SuperPipe, the challenges he’s faced and strategies while competing in all three ski disciplines at X Games Aspen 2015, his experience at the 2014 Sochi Olympics and his secret singing obsession.
Men’s Ski SuperPipe Finals will be held Sunday, January 25 @ 4PM ET on ESPN. The eight athletes that will be competing include Gus Kenworthy (89.33), Lyman Currier (88.00), Kevin Rolland (86.66), Simon d’Artois (85.00), Alex Ferreira (84.00), David Wise (83.00), Mike Riddle (82.33), and Noah Bowman (82.00).
