Isabella Crovetti Talks Starring Alongside Adam Devine, Jeffrey Tambor and Gillian Jacobs in “Magic Camp”

After almost two years of waiting, we can finally say that Magic Camp is headed to Disney+ this weekend!

According to the film’s description, Magic Camp follows Andy Tuckman (played by Adam Devine), a straight-laced banker returns to magic camp, which he attended years ago as a boy, to work as a compassionate and fun-loving counselor while also keeping his eye on winning first place in the upcoming Golden Wand competition.

Celeb Secrets (virtually) sits down with Isabella Crovetti to talk about her time on set, how she got into character for her role and some BTS secrets from set that you wouldn’t know while watching. FYI, Crovetti plays Ruth, one of Andy’s campers that is, according to the 15-year-old, “slightly eccentric and very outspoken.”

“Ruth has one thing she wants more than anything else at magic camp and she lets everyone know exactly what that is. She was such a fun role to play; the writer gave Ruth a lot of funny scenes,” Crovetti tells Celeb Secrets. “But the coolest thing about my work on ‘Magic Camp’ is before shooting we got to go to magic school and were taught magic by some of the most famous magicians in the world. I learned real magic and at the end of the movie, the viewers get to see us do real magic. There were no special effects and the magic acts were all filmed in one take, so it is like you are watching the acts live in a theater.”

You can keep up with Isabella by following her on Instagram at @isabellacrovetti. Don’t forget to watch Magic Camp on Disney+ beginning this Friday, July 10, 2020.

Celeb Secrets: Can you talk to us about “Magic Camp” and your character Ruth?

Isabella Crovetti: “Adam DeVine plays a banker who returns to magic camp to be a camp counselor, which he attended years ago as a boy. He never made it as a magician, and he feels he is forever in the shadow of the famous magician Christina Darkwood played by Gillian Jacobs. Darkwood also went to camp with Andy who was the star magician at camp. Andy wants to redeem himself and win the camp’s Golden Wand competition with his campers. Unfortunately, winning will not be easy and there are a lot of surprises along the way.

I play one of Andy’s campers named Ruth, she is slightly eccentric and very outspoken. Ruth has one thing she wants more than anything else at magic camp and she lets everyone know exactly what that is. She was such a fun role to play, the writer gave Ruth a lot of funny scenes. But the coolest thing about my work on ‘Magic Camp’ is before shooting we got to go to magic school and were taught magic by some of the most famous magicians in the world. I learned real magic and at the end of the movie, the viewers get to see us do real magic. There were no special effects and the magic acts were all filmed in one take, so it is like you are watching the acts live in a theater.”

CS: Are you anything like Ruth?

IC: “I am not really like Ruth. Ruth is way more outspoken and eccentric than me. But I took my goofy side and put that into the character I created for Ruth. Ruth loves animals so we do have that in common.”

CS: Since the film is all about “camp,” have you ever been to camp before? And if so, what was the experience like for you?

IC: “Yes, I went to a couple of summer camps and I loved it. The first camp I went to had everything, horseback riding, swimming everything you can think of. It was not an overnight camp like the one in ‘Magic Camp’.”

CS: If you could go to summer camp with any three people, who would you choose?

IC: “My two best friends that I have known since 3rd grade.”

CS: The film stars Jeffrey Tambor and Adam DeVine — what was it like working with them and the rest of the cast?

IC: “They were amazing to work with. Adam was so nice and down to earth.”

CS: What’s one thing you’re really looking forward for fans to see when “Magic Camp” premieres?

IC: “I can’t wait for the audience to see all the cool magic.  We are doing real magic, no special effects. Also, there are some fun a whacky character in the movie.  It is so funny.”

CS: Do you have any favorite memories from filming, whether it be on or off set?

IC: “They were both great guys. Adam is the nicest guy and incredible down to earth. There are so many funny amazing memories from filming ‘Magic Camp.’ A lot of us became really good friends and we still hang out to this day. We got to hang out with each other for several weeks before filming because we got to go to magic school. We were taught some of the best magicians in the world. So, we got to bond even before principal photography.”

CS: Since we’re Celeb Secrets, can you share secrets from the movie that you would want fans to know?

IC: “There is one scene that we only had one take to film it. The set up took a long time. We knew what was coming but since we had no clue how and when it was going to happen all of our reactions were real. It’ s really funny to watch.”
