Ivy Layne Reveals 5 Secrets About Her Debut EP “In Time”

Geoff Barrenger

Celeb Secrets: Can you tell us about your single “One You Love”? It is your debut single, why did you choose that one to be your first impression to the world?

Ivy Layne: “The good thing about “One You Love” is that it’s broken down into two parts. The first part which is out currently and you can watch the video on my website and other platforms. It’s my introduction to the world as an artist and the introduction of this fusion sound that we worked hard on to create. When you listen to my EP, it is electro funk merged with reggae rhythm. The way I grew up in Europe, living in NYC, and having so many diverse friends has influenced my music in a big way. I was able to recreate that sound on my EP. The first part is very sexy and the video narrative has a great story line. The second part is going to be even crazier. I am fortunate that Pocaan, who is the hottest artist out in Jamaica now and currently on tour with Drake, wanted to be part of the movement and recorded a verse for “One You Love.” We are shooing the music video soon in Jamaica. We are going to depict the beauty of the island, the people, and the culture while we create a great music video with a lot of energy and passion.”

Celeb Secrets: Can you talk a little about the writing and recording process for your EP “In Time?”

Ivy Layne: “What inspired me the most to create this EP and create a genre of Caribbean rhythm and European funk fusion is diversity. Diversity and inclusion are the perfect ways to get along and understand each other. I believe it was a no brainer to combine sounds from my childhood, Europe, and European funk. My whole team is from the Caribbean. They introduced to me to the different sounds of the islands such as dance hall, soca, and kompa. The melody and rhythm are too infectious not to be inspired. When I sat down with the producer and writers, I shared my inspiration, talked about stories or relationships that have affected me and things going on around the world that are impacting me. We talked about it. You can’t force the process, you have to let it happen organically and that’s what happened.”
