Jake Miller Says New Single ‘SAVED ME’ Pulled Him Out of a Dark Time (Exclusive)

Jake Miller is using quarantine to release new music.

The singer/songwriter and producer has been busy at home making original beats — famously known as “Quarantunes” on TikTok — to gear up for the world premiere of his fiery new single “Saved Me,” which is available on all streaming platforms today.

The track, which finds Miller singing along to a chorus like, “I was down, I was down / now I’m all the way up / almost drowned pulled me out / right before I gave up / you saved me” over a pulsating trap beat, is the lead single from his forthcoming EP due out this winter and is written by Miller alongside Tony Ferrari (Monsta X, New Hope Club) and Whakaio Taahi (Hot Chelle Rae, Katelyn Tarver, Tonight Alive) who also produced the track with Miller.

On the inspiration behind his new single, Jake shares, “‘SAVED ME’ speaks volumes to where I’m at mentally in my life right now. The past few years weren’t easy for me, but this song is about that person who came along and pulled me out of a dark place. I feel like the old me again.”

The release follows his 2019 EP Based On A True Story, which has racked over 15 million streams to date and yielded the Billboard Top 40-charting hit single “Wait For You.” Written and produced exclusively in his bedroom, the Miller also brought the EP on the road last spring and had a nearly sold-out tour across North America.

Celeb Secrets sat down with Miller to talk about the creative process behind “SAVED ME,” his viral TikToks, and what’s to come post-quarantine. Keep reading for the full Q&A below and let us know what you think of “SAVED ME” by either leaving a reaction at the bottom of the post or by sending us a tweet at @celebsecrets.

Celeb Secrets: You’ve officially dropped your new single today “SAVED ME.” Can you tell us more about it?

Jake Miller: “SAVED ME is my favorite song I’ve ever made. It’s the beginning of a new chapter for me. It’s about a person that came along and pulled me out of a dark time. I am putting the past behind me and only focused on the future.”

Celeb Secrets: You’ve said that you’re out of that dark place and feel like the old you again. Who or what do you credit for keeping you motivated through it all?

Jake Miller: “I credit all the closest people in my life. I have the best family, friends, girlfriend, and fanbase I could ever ask for. Everyone is so supportive and it really motivates me to be a better musician and a better human being.”

Celeb Secrets: What’s one thing you hope listeners take away from “SAVED ME”?

Jake Miller: “I want people to know that whatever they’re going through, you will always find the light at the end of the tunnel. It may take some time, but things always get better.”

Celeb Secrets: Do you have any BTS secrets or memories from making the song that you’re able to share?

Jake Miller: “I remember walking to this taco restaurant in the middle of the studio session and we wrote the whole second verse while eating tacos. It was there that we realized how special this song could be.”

Celeb Secrets: You also have new music coming out this winter. Can you tease what’s to come from it sound wise/production wise since you’re known for taking a majority of the reigns on your material?

Jake Miller: “My new music is definitely on a new wave for me. It’s a step up in the evolution of my sound. A lot of trap drums and 808s but with pop melodies.”

Celeb Secrets: We see that you’ve been staying pretty busy in quarantine with your family on TikTok. Can you tell us a little more about your “Quarantunes” on the platform? How did the initial idea come about?

Jake Miller: “My sister convinced me to get on TikTok as soon as I got home. I was hesitant, but once I started, I became addicted very quickly. TikTok has been an amazing platform that allows me and my family to create some funny, goofy content. It’s all just about having fun and staying creative.”

Celeb Secrets: You’ve gained millions of views and likes on each video, but which one was your favorite to film?

Jake Miller: “My favorite to film was “Don’t Eat The Bat”. For that one, we literally just danced around the kitchen for an hour acting like idiots.”

Celeb Secrets: Will you be posting any more in the future? And if so, what’s one crazy thing or challenge you’d like to do on TikTok?

Jake Miller: “I will definitely be on TikTok a lot going forward! I plan to incorporate all my new music into my videos. I would love to have some friends create some dances to my new music.”

Celeb Secrets: Is there anything else that our readers should look out for from you this year?

Jake Miller: “I have a lot of new music ready to go. With everything that’s happening right now, I’m not 100% when it will all come out, but it’s ready to go. I can’t wait to get back on the road and see everyone soon too!”
