Jakob Leventhal is teaming up with Rounder Records’ Sarah Jarosz for his new single “Greenwich Village Ghosts” and it’s so relatable that we can’t get enough of it.
Calling the song “one of his most earnest by a mile,” Leventhal opened up to Celeb Secrets about the breakup ballad, describing the concept as “the inevitable crushing realization we all have as humans that eventually you will have to be an individual, and that the people around you are not guaranteed to stay.”
“It’s about losing someone and trying to come to terms with the fact that you are the only one that’s really going to always be around,” Jakob says. “I guess we as humans have a tendency to isolate our problems in a way that sometimes can make us feel like we’re the only ones having them. It’s a very mature realization to figure out that everyone is going through something always.”
Sarah’s soft vocals pair perfectly with Jakob’s, and the collaboration came to fruition through a simple text message. “We’re friends and I just shot her a text asking if she would want to sing on this really fucking sad ballad I just recorded, and the rest is history.”
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the two musicians weren’t able to record together, however, Leventhal says that the process was super easy as she’s a “f**king pro and so wonderful.”
“She sent me her track and that was that. She didn’t need to resing a single part of it, I just mixed it in and it was done,” he shares.

“Greenwich Village Ghosts” comes after the release Leventhal’s first single “This Love is Sarcastic,” which received critical acclaim, which eventually led into “one of the most beautiful records [he’s] heard in a long time” by Elton John — his full-length debut Oh, So Bittersweet.
In between planning world domination and smoking a lot, Jakob is working on his next full-length album, which he plans to release in late 2020.
