LGBTQ Artist Sarah Barrios Opens Up About New EP “Conversations With Myself” And Hit Single “Happy”

East Coast born and raised singer and songwriter, Sarah Barrios left everything out on the table in new EP Conversations With Myself and leading single “Happy.” Listening to Barrios’ vulnerable and raw lyrics is like taking a deep breath of fresh air.

When the world shut down due to COVID-19, Barrios grabbed her guitar and journal and got to work, in order to connect and build a personal bridge with her fans. The rising star did just that, as she released multiple successful projects and generated a loyal fan base within the music scene. Quickly her music became an outlet for many struggling with their mental health or the world’s current climate.

“I’m just very grateful that people have been interested and wanted to listen to anything I have to say,” says Sarah in a Celeb Secrets interview. “It’s always very humbling to know that other people are feeling a similar thing that I’m feeling and I’m not so alone.”

After releasing her debut EP Letters I Never Sent and her lead single “Emotional” that tugs at the heartstrings, Sarah decided to take a new approach. “This past year was such a rollercoaster for everyone, so I really wanted to do something that made us all feel closer together and showed us that even in darkness we find moments of light,” says the pop artist. “I had spent so many years feeling anxious and scared, that when I came out, happiness felt foreign and kind of undeserved because I still felt like I didn’t know who I was.”

After coming out as bisexual and channelling her most authentic self, the artist decided to make her second EP about “looking inward and learning more about yourself as a human being.” Which many discovered while locked up in quarantine as well.

Her self-discovery journey shines through in her leading and upbeat track “Happy,” as she finds happiness and peace within her life and the place she is mentally. She shares the story of how she came up with the name and inspiration behind the lyrics.

“I went to Sweden to write songs for this project,” says the singer. “The day before the session, I was like ‘oh my god – I don’t feel anxious at all for the first time. So, naturally I felt concerned that something is wrong and that everything is going to fall apart. My co-writers were like’ Dude, just be happy. That was kind of the inspiration and the starting point was feeling happy and trying to teach myself that it’s okay to feel that way without assuming that something negative is going to happen afterwards.”

Sarah went on to share the importance of learning to be comfortable with being true to oneself and understanding that there is strength in vulnerability. Her hit single “Happy” proves that the singer has concurred her fear of being open and real.

“I think once I got past my own fears of being honest, things just started pouring out of my body and now I can stop,” Sarah adds.

In response to all the love and support from her fan base, the singer asked them to submit videos of them doing an activity that makes them “happy.” After receiving over 1,500 clips, Barrios incorporated her favorite ones into her latest music video for the single. “Just seeing so many people have those tiny moments of happiness was just so overwhelming,” the artist shared with Celeb Secrets.
