It’s not enough to have already caught the ears of the notoriously stringent English critics, now breakout duo MADDIE & TAE have gone down under! The pair – who became only the third female duo to have a #1 debut single in the history of the Billboard charts – have gone to Australia to perform “Girl In A Country Song” at the 5th Annual Country Music Channel Awards broadcast live today from Brisbane, Australia, as well as playing March 14’s CMC Rocks Queensland Festival at Ipswich Raceway and shows with Lady Antebellum in Sydney and Brisbane on March 15 and 17.

“It’s crazy to think people halfway around the world know us and our song,” Maddie professes. “A year ago, we were two girls with a songwriting deal, trying to turn our lives into songs people might see themselves in…and now we’re flying to the other side of the globe to sing one of them on a major awards show!”

“The CMC Awards are like the CMT Awards.” Tae explains. “I can’t think of a greater compliment than to plug into Australia like that. AND they’re letting us give out the Male Artist of the Year Award, too, which is killer for Maddie and I! But even more exciting than being part of the CMC Awards, we’re getting to play as part of their festival at Ipswich Raceway and do play a couple dates with Lady A!”

Moving twice the speed of sound, Maddie & Tae found themselves topping the prestigious Nashville Scene Annual Country Critics’ Poll for Single of the Year – and singled out by the UK’s Guardian with a headline proclaiming, “Good ol’ boys in a sulk as country debut puts girls in the driving seat.” The Sugar Land, Texan  and Ada, Oklahoman have been singled out by NPRThe Los Angeles Times, Atlantic Monthly, Entertainment Weekly, The New Yorker, The Washington Post, the TODAY show and the Late Show with David Letterman.

“I don’t know if we’re gonna get to see a koala bear or not,” Maddie laughs, “because our schedule is pretty packed, but everyone’s been so nice. I’ve got my fingers crossed. But, if not this trip, I can’t wait to get back! Talk about a great way to get ready for Dierks…”

Tae picks up. “There are so many things we’d love to do in Australia, but especially we came to play our music for these incredible fans! Again, the idea people a world away don’t just know who we are, but knowour music? That is the biggest rush of all… and they’re so generous with the beauty of their country.”

Coming up on the one-year anniversary of writing “Girl In A Country Song,” look for Maddie & Tae to be everywhere on the wings of the self-affirming ballad “Fly,” which the Academy of Country Music Vocal Duo of The Year nominees debuted on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in January. As “Fly” takes wing, the pair of no-nonsense songwriters who’ve tapped the vein of coming of age between the coasts, Maddie & Tae are gearing up for Dierks Bentley’s SOUNDS OF SUMMER Tour, which kicks off June 5 in Raleigh.
