The 2019 Billboard Music Awards has found its ICON Award recipient and its none other than Mariah Carey.
Joining the likes of previous recipients including Janet Jackson, Cher, Neil Diamond, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, Prince and Stevie Wonder, the record-breaking singer, songwriter, mother and muse is a true definition of an icon, making this honor way more than just deserved. To celebrate, Mimi will take the stage during the three-hour telecast to accept the award and perform a show stopping medley of her greatest hits.
Carey has been smashing records since she debuted on the music scene in 1990 with her self-titled album. Over the next three decades she continued to rule the charts, creating anthems, and snapshots of pop culture history along the way. Her last time on the BBMAs stage was in 2015.

Earlier this month, Kelly Clarkson joined Dan + Shay on the Today Show in New York City to reveal the nominees in top categories. Cardi B leads with a whopping 21 nominations this year, followed by Drake and Post Malone with seventeen, Travis Scott with twelve, XXXTENTACION with ten and Ariana Grande with nine. Nominated for two awards this year, Taylor Swift still leads the pack for most wins of all time with 23, a record she could break again with a win this year. Hosted by Kelly Clarkson, the 2019 Billboard Music Awards will air LIVE from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Wednesday, May 1st @ 8PM ET/PT on NBC and will also feature previously announced performers Kelly Clarkson, Lauren Daigle, Khalid, Panic! At The Disco and Sam Smith & Normani.
