Maya Rudolph, Jayma Mays, & Yvette Nicole Brown join Disney’s “Enchanted” Sequel

Ever since the release of Disney’s live-action film Enchanted in 2007, fans have been begging for a sequel. Over a decade later, the ball is finally rolling with comedians Maya RudolphJayma Mays, and Yvette Nicole Brown joining the already stellar cast.

Enchanted followed the story of Giselle (Amy Adams), who was transported from the animated fairytale world to real-life New York City by the wicked stepmother (Susan Sarandon) of Prince Edward (James Marsden) on their wedding day. In New York, Giselle is helped by single father Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and his daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey).

One of the most enchanting parts of the film was its many references to Disney films with everything from animation and characters to songs and actions.

While there is no announced plot yet for Disenchanted, the film will be able to explore what happened past the end of the original movie. Rudolph, Mays, and Brown will step in as the new villains after the demise of Sarandon’s character.

Adams, Dempsey, and Marsden have all been announced to return along with Idina Menzel, who played Robert’s girlfriend in the first film but ultimately ended up with Edward. Dempsey did not have a musical number in the first – and very funnily questioned the musical numbers happening – but is supposed to sing in this one. There’s no word yet if Covey will return yet, nor if Julie Andrews will return as the narrator.

Rudolph currently stars as Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday Night Live and provides a voice in Disney/ Pixar’s upcoming Luca. Mays is known for her role as Emma Pillsbury on Glee and most recently costarred in 2020’s Bill & Ted Face the Music. Brown, known for her role as Shirley Bennett on Community, will star in this year’s Broken Diamonds alongside Ben Platt.

Adam Shankman (Hairspray) will direct with new music being written by Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame’s Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. The film is expected to premiere on Disney+.
