Bakersfield Special Screening Of "McFarland, USA"

Disney’s McFarland, USA went back to its roots with a special red carpet premiere at the Maya Cinemas on Sunday afternoon (February 15) in Bakersfield, Calif.

From the film, Kevin Costner, Carlos Pratts, Rafael Martinez, Michael Aguero, Ramiro Rodriguez, Hector Duran, Johnny Ortiz, and Sergio Avelar walked the red carpet and watched the film in the true story’s hometown. Director Niki Caro and executive producer Mary Martin were also in attendance. From the real-life story, Jim White, Danny Diaz, David Diaz, Damacio Diaz, Johnny Samaniego, Victor Puentes, Thomas Valles, and Juanita and Paul Diaz came together to show their friends and family what the finished project looked like before it hit theaters.

Based on the 1987 true story, McFarland, USA follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school, with whom they ultimately bond to build not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well.

McFarland, USA opens in theaters February 20, 2015.
