Meet Langston Francis: The Singer/Songwriter that Makes Pop Music ‘That You Won’t Forget’

ICYMI: Langston Francis is an artist that needed to be on your radar yesterday.

The Toronto-based rising star has been killing it in The 6’s music scene and just dropped his new single “Waste My Time” back in May. Written by Langston with multi-platinum selling songwriter Neil Ormandy (James Arthur “Say You Won’t Let Go,” Bebe Rexha, Liam Payne) and producer and multi-instrumentalist Martin Wave (Chloe Lilac), Francis describes the infectious new single as “that carefree moment when you’re going out to the party, before you do the thing you’ll regret the next day.”

Gearing up for his sophomore EP Self Titled later this year, Celeb Secrets (virtually) sat down with the 19-year-old to learn more about his “pop music that you won’t forget,” how he’s been staying busy in quarantine and what to expect from the new EP.

Read the full Q&A below and don’t forget to follow Langston on Instagram at @langstonfrancis.

Celeb Secrets: How have you been staying creative while in quarantine?

Langston Francis: “I’ve been getting in to streaming a lot more. It was something I had never really given a shot but I’ve been having a lot of fun with it lately. I’m launching a series called “The Future is Bright”, where I plan on casually interviewing young artists on the come up as well as playing live music.”

CS: Who are your influences that have helped you shape your sound?

LF: “Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Girl In Red and Dominic Fike.”

Who would your dream collaboration be?

LF: “Kanye or Ed Sheeran.”

What would you describe your genre as?

LF: “Pop you won’t forget.”

CS: When all this is over, what are you most excited to get back to?

LF: “Playing shows 1000%. It’s a pretty unmatched feeling, connecting with fans and new audiences in real life.”

CS: When did you know you wanted to be an artist/performer?

LF: “As long as I can remember. I started playing guitar when I was 5 and never really strayed in any other direction.”

CS: What was your inspiration for your new single “Waste My Time?”

LF: “The song came together super quickly and fluidly which is always a good sign for me. It was a sunny day in LA – the song was exactly where my head was at.

I wrote the song with Neil Ormandy and Martin Wave about 30 minutes after we all met for the first time. It was funny because Neil wasn’t even in the session and just popped his head in since he was at the studio as well. They’re both such talented dudes, it was such a great day.”

CS: Is there a full length project on the way?

LF: “Definitely. For now I’m focused on my New EP that’s coming out in the fall.”

CS: Is there a message you want to share with your fans?

LF: “Be the exception to the rule. Don’t be scared of what others think.
