Meet our new Music Monday artist this week, Ben Hazlewood.
Ben is an alternative dark pop act that is making a splash not only in music, but also in modeling. The rising Aussie star has shot with Nigel Barker for a fashion campaign, walked in the Malan Breton show during New York Fashion Week, and brushes shoulder with Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid when he sits front row at London Fashion Week. Pretty awesome, right?
“The fashion industry is something a lot more recent for me,” Hazlewood tells us exclusively. I have always been very interested in styling and fashion design, so it has been an amazing experience to take a step into a different area and I am really enjoying it.”
When Ben isn’t working on modeling, he is developing his craft for his first love — music.
“I have been involved in the music industry professionally from the age of 10,” the singer and model says. “My parents are both performers, so it was a natural progression for me.”
Ben’s most recent track “Wanted” is out now and really showcases his “dark pop” sound. “Wanted is a song about unrequited love and the powerful and sometimes dark emotions that come with it,” Hazlewood says. “I wanted the song to be a reflection of this.”
The music video for “Wanted” boasts haunting monochromatic visuals, so we had to ask him what was the motive behind it. “The video was also created with this in mind also, trying to translate the angst, frustration, sadness and rage to the viewer. I wanted the visuals in the video to spark some of these emotions into who ever watches it.”
Ben is expected to drop a full-length album this fall and tour in the United States.
