Music Monday: Meet Isabella

Happy Monday, readers!

Meet our new Music Monday artist this week, Isabella.

Isabella is a Puerto Rican and French singer/songwriter that has created an international sound, combining pop music and Caribbean Latin rhythms, with passionate lyrics in English, Spanish and French. She grew up listening to artists such as La Lupe, Mariah Carey, Ricky Martin and Juan Luis Guerra; who all inspired her to pursue music professionally.

In 2016, Isabella collaborated with Capitol Records artist BJ The Chicago Kid on the single “Love Inside” from his debut album In My Mind. Did you know BJ The Chicago Kid has previously worked with well-known musicians such as Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar and Chance The Rapper? Talk about exciting!

Last year was also a big year for Isabella, as she released her music video for her latest song “Olé,” which is off her new EP that will be released later this year.  The song tells the story of a king who is willing to sacrifice everything for the love of the world. It is influenced by gypsy culture and flamenco in southern Spain. The percussion reflects the sounds of Puerto Rico, the diversity of the culture and Isabella’s other musical influences that have surrounded her since her youth.

Celeb Secrets caught up with Isabella recently to talk all about her music. In the Q&A below, the “Olé” singer talks about incorporating her heritage into her music, what we can expect from her upcoming EP, and her love for jewelry making.

Keep up with Isabella by following her on Twitter at @isabellamusique and purchase “Olé” on iTunes here.

Celeb Secrets: Can you tell us a little more about how you got involved with music? What made you want to pursue music professionally?

Isabella: “I’ve really enjoyed singing since my childhood. I started taking piano lessons when I was about 13, and after that I began opera lessons. I’ve been passionate about music for a very long time. Songwriting became an endeavor as I was interested in creating a new sound. It’s a blessing when your work is also your passion.”

Celeb Secrets: Your music is inspired by many things, including your culture. Why do you think it’s so important to incorporate your heritage into your music?

Isabella: “Incorporating my heritage comes naturally; it’s a part of me. Puerto Rican culture has a rich musical heritage. It distinguishes itself by its potent diversity.”

Celeb Secrets: You speak three different languages — do you have a favorite language to sing in? Why that language?

Isabella: “Each language expresses an inherent sentiment and carries a unique tone. I  equally enjoy singing in all three languages. I’m passionate about expressing love through singing. Each language speaks truth.”

Celeb Secrets: Your debut single “Olé” was just released recently! What can you tell us about it?

“Olé is about the love between a young woman and a king. Their love is special. Olé was recorded in LA and was the last song I wrote for my EP. We want it to reach an international audience.”

Celeb Secrets: Can you tease anything about your upcoming EP?

Isabella: “It’s entirely about love and friendship. I wanted to combine genres to have an international sound. The first single Olé represents a more eclectic and Caribbean sound while still keeping the pop genre. Other songs also have R&B and rock influences.”

Celeb Secrets: Since we are Celeb Secrets, can you share a secret about yourself to our readers?

Isabella: “I love jewelry making; I started very young. I especially like bead work. I’m also interested in photography.”
