Olivia Rodrigo Drops SOUR & We’re Obsessed Enough To Rank Our Fave Songs

After becoming one of 2021’s biggest breakout artists, Olivia Rodrigo confidently releases her new album SOUR. Since launching just a few short hours ago this Friday (May 21), the rising star’s debut collection is already gaining trending status in the YouTube world.

Ahead of the highly-anticipated launch, Rodrigo made sure to seriously hype up fans on Instagram. With a series of daily countdowns leading up to the big day, Rodrigo certainly amped up the forte and the results couldn’t be more exciting!

Despite the immense clout, Rodrigo still stays humble and grateful when addressing her followers. She writes in a caption, “every song is so personal and close to my heart. getting to share them with people is the most special thing I’ve ever done in my life. thank u to everyone who made this album happen.”

Long before we even knew Rodrigo had epic plans to come out with an entire album, we were lucky enough to get a few sneak peeks. Over the past few months, the pop sensation has created trend-worthy music videos for “drivers license,” “deja vu” and “good 4 u.”

Coincidentally (or not), all three highlighted songs just so happen to be about a really tough breakup. First, we see a few pangs of denial in the bitter lyricism and tune behind “drivers license.” Then comes pain as Rodrigo compares herself to an ex-lover’s newfound beau in “deja vu.” Last but not least, “good 4 u” shows us a punky state of anger and hysteria to complete the music video trilogy. Did Rodrigo intend to bring us the stages of grief all along? Who knows!

What we do know is that Rodrigo admits she feels truly blessed for getting the opportunity to sort out her emotions by penning new jams. “I’m so lucky songwriting and music exists. I hope you guys enjoy the 34 minutes and 46 seconds of me spilling my guts out that is called sour,” she reveals in a social caption. “thank you for helping me turn all my unhappy feelings into one of the best moments of my life💜💜💜  ”

Since we couldn’t be more excited to welcome Rodrigo’s latest tunes into the world, we just had to pay some sort of tribute. To give all the fans out there a taste of Rodrigo’s top tracks, we’ve ranked a few of our fave picks from the brand new album.
