Payton Moormeier is more than just a TikTok star!
The 16-year-old Georgia-born, North Carolina-raised, who has over 12.4 million followers on the platform, is actually a killer singer/songwriter and just recently dropped his debut single “Love Letter.”
The song, which has over 1.5 million Spotify streams, is inspired by a past relationship that ended abruptly, leaving him with no closure. He was inspired to put paper to pen and express the feelings she left him with on the track and tells his story through airy guitar, hip-hop beat craft, and lyrical vulnerability, turning up with a signature style of his own.
“Its a personal song,” Payton tells Celeb Secrets. “Its a sad love song and I hope people can relate to it because people do get their hearts broken and that was the vibe I was going for.”
Just last week, Moormeier dropped the official music video for the song, which has almost 1 million views since its debut. The visual, which you can watch below, shows the 16-year-old in his element while giving his fans a behind-the-scenes look as to how the song came together.
“With music, I’m really into every aspect of it, so it’s really cool that we got it all on video and we’re able to relive that day and show everybody how it was made,” he shares. “It was such a special day even though we didn’t know it at the time and being able to have everybody see that was awesome. It’s a new side that no one has seen.”
After discovering Metallica at seven-years-old, Payton’s mom bought him a guitar, and he taught himself how to play by consuming countless hours of lessons on YouTube. He later widened his musical palette by listening to Post Malone, blackbear, and more, and eventually posted covers to social media when he was 12-years-old. His cover of Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself” has over 1 million views to date and he honed his chops and regularly posted online content. In 2018, he posted a TikTok of Halsey’s “Without Me” that caught fire, giving him over 12 million fans, 538 million “likes” and billions of views and impressions.
With a new single “Habits” on the way, Payton hopes listeners and fans who watched him grow are inspired to chase their dreams too.
