Q&A: Getting to Know “Secret Agent Dingledorf and His Trusty Dog Splat” Star Cooper J. Friedman

Cooper J. Friedman is on the rise to becoming one of Hollywood’s best young actors. Born in Southern California, the soon-to-be 13-year-old actor has a number of credits already under his belt such as Mixed-ish, Shameless, and Girl Meets World. This summer, he will be starring as IQ in the blockbuster family film, Secret Agent Dingledorf and His Trusty Dog Splat.

While Friedman was growing up, he was introduced to the world of acting through his older brother, Quinn Friedman. After starring in numerous commercials, he landed his debut role in the major HBO show, Togetherness starring Mark Duplass and Melanie Lynskey.

“I loved watching Quinn audition and go on set. My first job was on a tv show called Togetherness for HBO. I was 4 years old and my brother and I played brothers on the show. I knew after that day that I wanted to be an actor,” Friedman shares with Celeb Secrets.

Following Friedman’s appearance on Togetherness, the actor began booking even bigger projects. He has been part of shows such as Girl Meets World and movies such as Battle of the Sexes. However, out of the many shows he has worked on, Girl Meets World will always be his favorite because of his experience with the cast.

On the experience, Friedman said, “I loved working on all those shows! However, Girl Meets World will always hold a special place in my heart. I loved my character “Dewey, Doy” and I loved the entire cast. I met two of my best friends on the show: August Maturo and Ava Kolker.”

Friedman’s next project, Secret Agent Dingledorf and His Trusty Dog Splatis guaranteed to be a fun movie for families to enjoy this summer. It will be released on July 23. We are so excited to see what he will do next!

CS: You’ve starred in shows like Mixed-ish, Shameless, and Girl Meets World. What has been your favorite show to work on so far and why?

CF: “I loved working on all those shows! However, Girl Meets World will always hold a special place in my heart. I loved my character “Dewey, Doy” and I loved the entire cast. I met two of my best friends on the show: August Maturo and Ava Kolker.”

CS: Your upcoming movie, Secret Agent Dingledorf and His Trusty Dog Splat, is based on a best-selling book series. Did you happen to read the books before you filmed the movie?

“I did read the book. It’s a great series, very motivating and each book has a great message.”

CS: Can you tell us a little bit about your character, IQ? What did you like about playing him?

CF: “IQ is very funny and is a great friend. He always wants to make people laugh and wants to help. I love that IQ is funny and that he cares so much for everyone. He can definitely be a little clumsy and spacey at times but that’s what makes his character so great and unique.”

CS: If you had your own spy backpack like in the movie, what kind of items would you have in it?

CF: “Ooh, that’s a great question. If I had my own spy backpack I think I would have a grappling hook, definitely the phone socks, disappearing ink, teleporting device, and an invisibility cloak.”

CS: Are there any actors that you look up to? Who would you like to work with the most?

CF: “I really like Adam Sandler and all his movies. I think he is hilarious and a great actor. I would love to do a movie with him.”

CS: We truly admire your advocacy and passion for promoting anti-bullying. Do you have any advice for those who may be experiencing bullying in their own life?

CF: “I am very passionate about anti bullying. I think that everyone at some point in time has been bullied, myself included. If you or someone you know is getting bullied please try to talk to an adult, a parent, teacher, counselor, friend etc. There are various resources online that can help as well (saynobullying.org). I think the most important thing to know if you are getting bullied is that you are not alone and that you are perfect the way you are and no one should tell you otherwise.”

CS: Apart from acting, you enjoy playing video games. What is your favorite video game to play? Are there any upcoming video games you’re excited for?

CF: “It depends on the mood I am in but I have loved all Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon games my whole life. However, games such as Minecraft, Call of Duty, Sea of Thieves, and Fortnite are games I play occasionally. Games that I am looking forward to that are coming out are Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl for the Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Legends Arceus for the Nintendo Switch, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope for the Nintendo Switch and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 for the Nintendo Switch.”

CS: Since we’re Celeb Secrets, do you have any secrets or hidden talents that you can share with us?

CF: “Many people do not know this but I really love ice skating. I could say that I am the best in my family; however, I am not the greatest. Also, I have been building puzzles my whole life. Anything from 3D puzzles to Jigsaw puzzles and 500 pieces to 2000 pieces, I have done them all. I can sometimes build a 500-piece puzzle in 4 hours.”
