Rising Pop Artist Rachel Lorin Makes Directorial Debut for Her Latest Music Video (Premiere)

Rachel Lorin is gearing up for the music video release for her single “Obsessed” and Celeb Secrets has your first look at the stunning new visual.

The powerhouse singer, who released the song last month, tells Celeb Secrets that “Obsessed” comes from a girl who went from having a previous relationship that filled her with heartbreak and darkness to a hopeless romantic that shows her affection for her significant other everywhere she goes.

“I let [the new relationship] ride for a bit before I told Rob & Curtis, my producers and co-writers, it was time for a modern love song from me. It was time for me to get out of the bitter barn and play in the hay,” she shares. “I was beyond happy and I wanted to let the world know what it actually feels like for me… to love someone that openly and that deeply. It’s actually frightening to be that vulnerable with your heart. True love is priceless and sometimes, admittedly, it can be the scariest thing because you don’t want to lose it. Yes, it can be over the top at times but I love it and that’s what ‘Obsessed’ is about.”

Showcasing Lorin’s softer side, the 25-year-old’s sultry vocals are complemented by delicate synths and steady electronic drums, which all build into a powerful final chorus. Keeping the momentum going, the music video is just as exciting as the song itself. Making her directing debut, Rachel says the project is “the most artsy [she’s] ever gone and it’s certainly an abstract and obscure storyline.”

“Any viewer can get a different take on it,” she says. “For me, I wanted to show the good and the ugly of being in love with someone. The romance and beauty side of it then the fighting and toxic obsessive side of it. Ryan Sadler co-directed this baby with me and we’re very excited to get this art piece out to the world.”

In addition to directing, Rachel danced alongside her co-star Francisco Villa in the video and trained for eight hours a day — something that she hasn’t done in nearly eight years.

“I hadn’t danced in quite some time so it took me a full month to get my splits back and turns back. I was going to the gym and sauna twice a day building up and stretching. My mom laughed at me cause I’d never been so sore, limping around the house. Thankfully, by the time I was ready to work, I was good to go,” she laughs.

“The actual filming process was seamless and went perfectly because it was all mapped out. The funniest thing that kept happening was the feathers from the masks kept going up my nose tickling me. It drove me nuts.”

Rachel Lorin believes in finding beauty in the unbeautiful, an incessant search that began with her roots in Atlanta, Georgia. Born in the South and shaped by New York City, she has a wide, diverse history in music, and at only 25, the singer/songwriter already has a storied career.

From beginning modeling at 9 to singing the National Anthem at the US Open at 12 and then eventually launching her musical career on the reality TV series “Next Big Thing,” her experiences over the past decade have finally helped her find her artistic footing—she’s a rock girl in a pop world.

Following a 2019 tour with full band support, Rachel has new music on the horizon. In 2020, she released her latest single “Obsessed” as well as “Kerosene,” which has over 3 million views to date

“I have a few new music video releases this year and several singles and I’m so so excited about them,” Rachel says of her upcoming projects. “I’m definitely getting more and more comfortable and solid in the direction I’m going in with my music.”
