Best friends are truly hard to come by, so when you know you’ve found the one for you, you rarely let them go.
Back when she was a student at USC, singer/songwriter Rozzi found her BFF in the dorms and instantly bonded over mutual friends and relatable high school memories after finding out they both grew up in the Bay Area. Fast forward years later and the girls are inseparable. Describing their dynamic as “family,” Rozzi is sharing all of her inside jokes and favorite memories with her best friend in her latest single, appropriately titled “Best Friend Song,” which she released back in August.
Written with collaborators Charlie Snyder (Machine Gun Kelly, Bebe Rexha, G-Eazy) and Zak Waters (Betty Who, JoJo, SHINee), and co-produced by Zak Waters, Steve Greenberg, Michael Mangini and AJR brothers Jack Metzger and Ryan Metzger, “Best Friend Song” is the ultimate pop anthem dedicated to lifelong friendship.
“I’m so happy it’s out,” Rozzi said with a huge smile on her face on a Zoom call with Celeb Secrets recently. “This song is so funny; I really didn’t think I would ever release it. It’s a song that I wrote for my best friend Tatti; we are sisters, soulmates, codependents — however you want to describe it — and we’ve lived together for so many years. When she finally moved out it, was really sad. It was an end of an era.”
Relating the situation to that episode in Friends when Rachel moves out of the apartment so Chandler can live with Monica, Rozzi said that the song’s initial intent was just for laughs. But when she started singing it at live shows, fans really enjoyed it, which ultimately lead into releasing it as her next single. “I sang it to embarrass her [at my shows] and people liked it more than my other songs so it ended up not only being the single, but it’s a song for my best friend who is very real. It’s a very real story,” she shared.
In addition to her BFF and fans enjoying the song, Rozzi received praise from listeners and best friends from around the world, as “Best Friend Song” has its own challenge on TikTok called the #RozziBFsChallenge.
“I love [it] so much. It’s the perfect visual representation of what I hope the song does – connect people and have fun with their friends,” Rozzi says of the TikTok challenge.
“The world feels so heavy with so many scary things going on and I don’t think for a second that this silly song about my friend is gonna solve any of those problems but I hope that it can be a little light of fun in the moment. To bring people together and realize what they love about each other. To have fun with the people they love and on TikTok it feels like the perfect place to dance with a friend. I’ve seen a lot fo people making little montages with their best friends and that reminds me of the lyric video and it’s really sweet so I want more of that.”

“Best Friend Song” is a taste for what’s to come with Rozzi’s new music, which is expected to drop sooner than you think. Having written a bunch of new material in London before the Coronavirus pandemic, Rozzi told Celeb Secrets that the single points to the direction of where her new album is going. “I still have my heartbreak songs, my ballads, and all of the stuff that I had on my last album,” she says, “but I think this album is a little more fun and fresh. I’m so proud of it already.”
