Singer Sam Creighton has just released her debut single, “Adore,” and it’s an upbeat, dance-able track that will really have you grooving! And though this is the artist’s first official release, she’s certainly had quite the musical journey over the years. In an exclusive interview, Celeb Secrets caught up with the star-in-the-making to hear all about it. Check out our Q & A below.
Celeb Secrets: Can you tell us about your musical journey, and how your sound has evolved to the point you’re at now?
Sam Creighton: I started singing before I could even talk- humming melodies with the help of my grandfather. I would sit -in awe- on his lap at the piano and try to mimic the sounds he was making! Since then, music has been the biggest part of my life. I grew up singing musical theater and classical music, but in college, I joined an a cappella group and learned about the world of pop music. Since being in that group, my style and taste in music have changed greatly. My sound has become more refined while remaining powerful, as I want to always convey a message through my music.

Celeb Secrets: Who are some of your musical influences?
Sam Creighton: Major musical influences I have are Jojo, Julia Michaels, Ariana Grande, and the queen herself, Whitney Houston.
Celeb Secrets: Can you tell us about your debut single, “Adore,” and what went into creating this track?
Sam Creighton: Working on my debut single was amazing. I wrote it with two of my best friends after telling them that I wanted to write and release a super sexy and upbeat song. (Contrary to the song, I’m a very emotional and dark person, so it was kind of a challenge to myself to try to write a song with a more surface level meaning and an upbeat vibe.) Every time I heard a new version of the production, I’d just dance around my room by myself. Does that make me a loser?
When we were recording it, we actually wrote all of the harmonies and background parts on the day of, which was super fun because it added so much dimension to the track that I wasn’t expecting! I wrote this one in conjunction with my next two releases as well, as I was originally intending on releasing an EP – so it was an amazing feeling, seeing this project come to life. I’ve been working on this music for about a year now, and it feels very invigorating and liberating to sing my own songs and tell the world who I am as an artist and as a person. It’s also an extremely vulnerable process, but it’s important to be open and honest with yourself because that’s what makes us relatable and interesting.

Celeb Secrets: What do you hope listeners take away from this song?
Sam Creighton: I hope listeners will take away that I am a fun, bubbly person who doesn’t take herself too seriously as a human but wants to be taken seriously as an artist. I hope that people will listen and relate to wanting to be loved and accepted since that’s all any of us want! However, I would like to note that SELF LOVE is the highest form of being adored, and you can find it within yourself. Finally, I hope listeners love the song and wonder what’s coming next from me!!
Celeb Secrets: What do you think your younger self would be most excited to hear you’re up to right now?
Sam Creighton: I think my younger self would be most excited to hear that I am finally on the grueling and incredible journey of self-love. Yes, making my own music is amazing and I’m proud of myself for that, but it pales in comparison to how far I’ve come with self-acceptance and loving myself. It sounds cliche, but it’s so important. I urge all of you who are struggling with this to look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself that you’re incredible!
Celeb Secrets: What would you say is your favorite part of the industry: performing live, recording in the studio, etc?
Sam Creighton: 100% Performing Live. Nothing compares to the feeling, the adrenaline rush, the sense of purpose I feel when I’m on stage performing.
