Shannon K Opens Up About Her Struggle with Self-Confidence in New Single “RUN” (Listen)

Shannon K is back with new music and we can’t get enough of it!

The Indian born, LA based singer, songwriter, actor and influencer dropped her new single “RUN” at midnight, which perfectly encapsulates her raw, authentic talent. Drawing from past experiences, Shannon hopes that the track helps fans find their own self-confidence and uniqueness.

“My past experiences have inspired me to write the song. I had always been somewhat insecure about myself and that had been bugging me a lot, not to mention the kinds of things I heard from people when I first started my career,” Shannon tells Celeb Secrets. “I hope that fans feel confident about themselves, especially since we are all going through a crazy time.”

Also at midnight, Shannon shared the song’s accompanying music video, which takes place in the singer’s home country of India. Filmed at the 450-year-old Mundota Palace and Fort in Jaipur, the “RUN” visual shows Shannon performing in a special traditional Indian dress with stunning jewels to channel her roots.

“RUN” is the follow-up to “I Do,” which was released back in March. It joins Shannon’s catalog of buzzworthy singles, including 2018’s “A Long Time,” written and produced by 4x Grammy award winner Jason “Poo Bear” Boyd (Justin BieberDJ Khaled, Drake, Pink etc.).

Celeb Secrets sits down (virtually) with Shannon to talk about “RUN;” what we can expect from her new music, and what she’s learned from working with some of the industry’s top producers/songwriters.

Check out our full Q&A and the music video for “RUN” below — don’t forget to let us know what you think of “RUN” by either leaving a reaction at the bottom of the post or by sending us a tweet at @celebsecrets.

Celeb Secrets: Super exciting that your new single “RUN” is finally here. Can you talk to us about the meaning behind the song and what made you want to record/release it?

Shannon K: “My past experiences have inspired me to write the song. I had always been somewhat insecure about myself and that had been bugging me a lot, not to mention the kinds of things I heard from people when I first started my career.”

CS: What do you hope your fans take away from listening to “RUN?”

SK: “I hope that fans feel confident about themselves, especially since we are all going through a crazy time. Certain people or situations can bring us down, but to be able to have self-confidence and motivation to get back to achieving your goals, is what I hope fans and listeners feel after listening to this song.”

CS: What can you tease about the upcoming music video?

SK: “I’ve been teasing a lot on my socials! I’m super excited to see how my fans react to me wearing an Indian outfit, as I’ve never done that before. We even went down to Jaipur, one of the most historical cities in India, to capture Indian culture within the video. We filmed at the 450 year old Mundota Palace and Fort!”

CS: Is “RUN” a taste of what we can expect from future releases?

SK: “I guess you can say that. I feel like it’ll be really interesting to see where my taste of music takes me from here. I’m always so curious about trying out different styles, so I’m excited to see what’s next to come.”

CS: Leading into our next question… is there more material coming from you soon? Whether it be more singles or an EP/album?

SK: “There might be some more singles coming out sometime next year, so be on a look out for that!”

CS: What is your sound like for people that haven’t heard it yet?

SK: “I’d say that my sound is Alternative Pop. I do like to be versatile though. I like exploring different genres but I mainly stick to the pop or R&B genres.”

CS: Being born in India, raised in London, living in LA and having a dad who is a Bollywood singer, what really influences your music?

SK: “Everything! Haha. Honestly my music has been influenced by so many people, and my surroundings and experiences so far. I would say that my dad influenced me to start singing in the first place. I’ve always wanted to be just like him, and then I came across Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, and all these incredible artists influenced me to sing. And they still do!”

CS: You’ve worked with some of the industry’s top producers/songwriters – what’s one thing you may have learned and how are you applying it to your career personally?

SK: “Honestly I have learned from so many top producers/songwriters! I noticed that they all have different approaches to creating music, and I have learned that their creativity is always rolling. Sometimes we tend to get frustrated, but to be able to look for every angle is something that I have learned and value from them.”

CS: What’s one thing you want to cross off your bucket list once the pandemic is over?

SK: “I really want to go to Six Flags. Hopefully once the pandemic is over, I’ll be able to go and enjoy the crazy rides.”

CS: Since we’re Celeb Secrets, do you have any behind-the-scenes secrets from recording “RUN” that we wouldn’t know when listening to it?

SK: “I don’t know if this is a secret or not, but while I was on the mic during the shoot, my mom called me up and her voice got recorded so… If you have some impeccable ears, you might be able to hear her. Haha!”
