The Cast of “Make It Pop” Reveals Behind-the-Scenes Secrets from New Summer Special

If your plans include going out on Saturday, change them immediately because Make It Pop is returning to Nickelodeon for one special night!

Sun Hi, Corki, Jodi, and DJ Caleb are back for Make It Pop Summer Splash! and we have the scoop on what you can expect! School’s out at MacKendrick Prep and XO-IQ band members Sun Hi (Megan Lee), Corki (Erika Tham), Jodi (Louriza Tronco) and DJ Caleb (Dale Whibley) are spending their summer at the world-famous Sparkview Resort after winning a spot as the hotel’s exclusive house band. Tempers flare and friendships are tested when the resort manager tries to steer the group in a new musical direction. But with the support and inspiration from some special guests, the band must find a way to put on the show of the summer.

The hour-long episode will also feature three all-new original songs performed by XO-IQ, and cameos from Nancy O’Dell (Entertainment Tonight), Chachi Gonzales (professional dancer and choreographer), JoJo Siwa (professional dancer and social media star), Zach Sang (radio and television personality) and DJ Maxwell (Nick Radio).

Celeb Secrets: You reunited with the cast not too long ago and fans kind of had the idea you were filming something for Make It Pop. The word is out and you officially have a summer special coming out — what can you tell our viewers about it?

Dale Whibley: “Its one hour of new Make It Pop! New music, new dances and new shenanigans.”

Celeb Secrets: What was it like getting back together with the cast again? 

Dale Whibley: “It was amazing to see everyone again, living so far away from each other on a day to day basis makes the time we have shooting that much more enjoyable.”

Celeb Secrets: You have a few notable guest stars in the upcoming special. Can you tease their roles in it?

Dale Whibley: “We have a new boy, a new enemy and some HUGE talent coming to the special.”

Celeb Secrets: XO-IQ has a few new songs in the special and a new album coming out right before the special airs. What can you tell us about these songs? Has the sound progressed since you guys first started recording back in season 1?

Dale Whibley: “Just like any band grows with their music, I feel like the XO-IQ from season 1 isn’t the XO-IQ you’ll see in the special.”

Celeb Secrets: Since we are Celeb Secrets, what are some behind the scenes secrets from filming the summer special?

Dale Whibley: “The set we shot our pool scenes also is the Hollingsworth pool in Degrassi!”

Erika Tham: “The summer special features three new original songs and shows the characters in a completely different environment. Filming the summer special was very different to anything we’ve ever done before on the show and I really hope fans enjoy watching it.”

Celeb Secrets: What was it like getting back together with the cast again? 

Erika Tham: “It’s always great being back on set and catching up with everyone!”

Celeb Secrets: You have a few notable guest stars in the upcoming special. Can you tease their roles in it?

Erika Tham: “All the guest stars play themselves, which I think is always really cool because it brings an element of reality into the story! Chachi and JoJo were on set with us and they’re both so much fun to work with.”

Celeb Secrets: XO-IQ has a few new songs in the special and a new album coming out right before the special airs. What can you tell us about these songs? Has the sound progressed since you guys first started recording back in season 1?

Erika Tham: “All three songs are upbeat and fun to dance to. I hope the fans really enjoy them.”

Celeb Secrets: Since we are Celeb Secrets, what are some behind the scenes secrets from filming the summer special?

Erika Tham: “We filmed the entire hour long special and five music videos in four and a half days!”

Megan Lee: “It is so awesome to be back with the fam to film this summer special! The fans have been so patient with us, so I am extremely excited for them to watch this very special episode that we worked very hard on.”

Celeb Secrets: What was it like getting back together with the cast again?  

Megan Lee: “I love my castmates and the crew so much! We are basically a big happy family and I genuinely care about them so much. Seeing everyone work together again is like we never left!”

Celeb Secrets: You have a few notable guest stars in the upcoming special. Can you tease their roles in it? 

Megan Lee: “We do have very special guest stars in our summer splash episode and we as a cast, are super excited to have on the show! Fans might be able to see some dancing and some summer romance as well!”

Celeb Secrets: XO-IQ has a few new songs in the special and a new album coming out right before the special airs. What can you tell us about these songs? Has the sound progressed since you guys first started recording back in season 1?  

Megan Lee: “We have 3 new songs for this summer special called, “We Got It”, “Gonna be Lit” and “Summer’s Here”.  As usual, the songs are super upbeat but definitely have a definite summer-y vibe to them.”

Celeb Secrets: Since we are Celeb Secrets, what are some behind the scenes secrets from filming the summer special? 

Megan Lee: “As there are videos all over Youtube and other social-media outlets, you might’ve seen me and Louriza fall into the pool while filming a scene. That was definitely NOT planned at all but we laughed it off afterwards! Ps. we shot this summer episode in 4 1/2 days, which was pretty intense for all cast and crew members, but I feel very proud that we made it through the storm.”

Louriza Tronco: “The Make It Pop Summer Special is an hour episode filled with wild adventures, new characters and a lot of music. And I mean, A LOT of music. We have five musical numbers and three of them are brand new songs. I’m so excited for everyone to see it!”

Celeb Secrets: What was it like getting back together with the cast again? 

Louriza Tronco: “Getting back with the cast was so fun- it’s like we never left! It was nice for us to do some filming outside! We’re usually cooped up in the studio when we film scenes but since this was a summer episode we got to soak up some sun while working!”

Celeb Secrets: You have a few notable guest stars in the upcoming special. Can you tease their roles in it?

Louriza Tronco: “You’ll have to wait and see!! ;)”

Celeb Secrets: XO-IQ has a few new songs in the special and a new album coming out right before the special airs. What can you tell us about these songs? Has the sound progressed since you guys first started recording back in season 1?

Louriza Tronco: “The three new songs for the Make It Pop Summer Special is definitely geared towards the feeling of being outside, enjoying the sunshine, and having fun with friends! They’re all upbeat and fun songs to dance to. I love the song “We Got It”, it has a great bass to it and it’s a great representation of the band’s passion and friendship.”

Celeb Secrets: Since we are Celeb Secrets, what are some behind the scenes secrets from filming the summer special?

Louriza Tronco: “A little behind the scenes secret is that we actually did two night shoots during our filming week. It was interesting because I’ve never had to go from a day shoot to a night shoot! We shot the first three days during the day and when it came to the night shoot I was really nervous that I wouldn’t be able to sleep during the day and would come to work falling asleep on set. Luckily, the crew gave me some great tips on how to rela (even if I don’t fall asleep apparently it helps to just keep your eyes closed to charge up for the long night). We filmed until 4 am and we wrapped with some pizza and ice cream!”
