Nickelodeon’s gang of tots are back! A reboot of the beloved 1991 animated series, Rugrats, will be premiering on the new streaming service Paramount+ this spring.
Not only can we expect “rich and colorful CG-animation” as we follow our favorite toddlers on new adventures but according to the press release, the OG voice cast will be reprising their roles as the iconic babies.
The reimagined animated series will star E.G. Daily as Tommy Pickles, Nancy Cartwright as Chuckie Finster, Cheryl Chase as Angelica Pickles, Cree Summer as Susie Carmichael, and Kath Soucie as Phil and Lil DeVille. So, although the show may look a little different, it’ll still sound the exact same.
The show is produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios with Eryk Casemiro and Kat Boutilier as producers, both of whom worked on the classic animated series.
“Rugrats is one of the most iconic cartoons recognized by fans around the globe, and this original version is one we are taking great care and pride in creating for a brand-new audience,” said Ramsey Naito, president of Nickelodeon Animation.
“Having the voice cast behind these special characters come together is one of the essential pieces to making the show recognizable and we can’t wait to watch this talented group bring them to life again.”
Along with the announcement, Paramount+ also shared a short teaser clip of the new CG-animated series. In the clip, we find ourselves back at the Pickles household, their living room to be more specific, and see the tots watching Reptar on the television—with Angelica trying to rope Chuckie into one of her mischievous plans.
Even if it does make us feel a little bit old (it’s been 30 years since the original series first premiered) we can’t wait to watch the gang go on more adventures! Hopefully, they’ll use the iconic theme song as well.
