The Spotlight Was on the Ladies at the 2019 American Music Awards

The American Music Awards continue to put on a show like no other. Bringing together artists across all genres, the AMAs are the world’s largest fan-voted award show.

Tonight, the world listened as the fans made their voices heard, declaring Post Malone’s “Hollywood’s Bleeding” their favorite rap/hip-hop album, “Señorita” by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello their favorite collaboration, Carrie Underwood their favorite female country artist and so many more.

While the evening showcased all types of talent, the spotlight shined the brightest on music’s leading ladies, and Celeb Secrets is rounding up some of the best female moments from tonight’s 2019 American Music Awards

Billie Eilish Makes Stunning Award Show Debut

It was a big night for Billie Eilish. The seventeen-year old earned her very first American Music Award tonight for “Favorite Alternative Artist!”

Following her first win, Eilish performed her hit song, ‘all the good girls go to hell’ while surrounded by flames and rocking a “classic Billie” oversized tee with the phrase “NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET” written across. It wasn’t long after her performance that Billie was back on stage to accept her second win of the night, “New Artist of the Year!”

Taylor Swift is Our “Artist of the Decade”

It’s Taylor Swift’s world and we’re just living in it.

Swift’s night began by accepting the award for “Favorite Pop/Rock Album” for Lover and it only went up from there.  Swift’s performance was undoubtedly the most anticipated moment of the night and the superstar did not disappoint.

Introduced by legendary singer-songwriter, Carole King, Swift kicked off her performance with the feminist anthem ‘The Man’ while rocking a white button-down covered in the names of her first six albums – a tribute to her fight to gain ownership of her masters. “The Man” was followed by fan-favorite hits “Love Story,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “Blank Space,” and “Lover.” Not only was Swift later named “Artist of the Year,” but was also crowned Artist of the DECADE.

Tonight’s wins by Swift means she is now the most decorated performer in AMAs history, surpassing Michael Jackson.

Halsey Delivers Inspiring Speech After AMAs Win While Dissing the Recording Academy for GRAMMYs Snub

Halsey won her first American Music Award tonight for her song “Without Me,” as the chart-topping track took home the award for “Favorite Song – Pop/Rock.”

Her speech was very inspiring, however, we couldn’t help but notice her low key diss to the Recording Academy, as the song was not nominated for a GRAMMY for next year’s ceremony.

“I grew up watching shows like this and I would sit at home, wide-eyed, and watch artists in these beautiful gowns and handsome suits stroll up the stairs to the stage and they would hold up these awards and they were usually gold-plated and shiny and weighted, these, like, metaphors, these trophies that were supposed to be some kind of validation for the soul-crushing and heartache-inducing work that they put into writing a song and bringing it to life,” she told the crowd. And to be honest with you, I really believed that fairy tale. I believed these awards.”

“When I was a kid, I used to believe that this award was the ultimate validation and that I’d come up here and laugh and cry and my fans at home would rejoice because we accomplished this thing together,” she continued. “But the truth is, I am older now and I’m also an artist and apparently I’m doing OK. But most of these awards really aren’t what they seem at all.”

“But that’s OK because I’m up here right now and I am so thankful to the AMAs because they are the world’s largest fan-voted awards show,” Halsey concluded, adding that fans are “the people who give a s**t about music.”

Kesha Brings it Back to 2009 with “Tik Tok” Performance

Kesha took the AMAs to Church tonight with a show-stopping performance of her smash hit “Raising Hell” with Big Freedia, however, the moment that had everyone talking was her surprise performance of her iconic 2009 hit, “Tik Tok.” Not one person in the audience wasn’t singing along, and it was absolutely amazing.

Shania Twain Returns to the AMAs for the First Time in 16 Years

For the first time in sixteen years, Shania Twain was back on the AMA stage!

The country artist ended the night with an unforgettable medley of her hit songs, including “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” and “That Don’t Impress Me Much.” To top it off, Twain, accompanied by her sparkly pink guitar, also covered “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift, “God’s Plan” by Drake and “Stressed Out” by twenty one pilots. The medley had everyone on their feet, including Post Malone.
