‘The Voice’ Season 12: Battle Rounds Night Four Recap – March 28, 2017

It’s official!

After the fourth (and final) night of battle rounds last night, The Voice is moving on with 32 contestants that will prepare to compete within the knockout rounds next week. Nonetheless, it didn’t make getting to this point any easier on any party involved.

Adam Levine, Alicia Keys, Blake Shelton, and Gwen Stefani can cross off surviving this season’s battle rounds off of their list. However, this doesn’t mean that the judges took last night’s final round lightly when selecting vocalists to remain on their teams. As of now, all coaches will be walking into the knockout rounds with the best of the best to come through this season.

Naturally, Celeb Secrets has the breakdown of which vocalists are in the clear and which will not see even the tiniest glimpse of next week’s knockout rounds.

Season 12 of The Voice airs Monday and Tuesday at 8PM on NBC.

TEAM ADAM

JESSE LARSON VS. TAYLOR ALEXANDER, “SHAMELESS” BY GARTH BROOKS

WINNER: JESSE LARSON

From beginning to end, this wasn’t necessarily a fair battle by any means. Levine basically admitted that he just placed the left over contestants from his team within this performance when he states, “this pairing makes no sense at all.” Larson was much stronger on this song as he effortlessly carried the tune, but it felt like more of a challenge for Alexander to perform it against him. Despite telling both vocalists how proud he was of them, he wisely went with Larson in the end.

TEAM GWEN

BRANDON ROYAL VS. DAVINA LEONE, “IN THE NIGHT” BY THE WEEKND

WINNER: BRANDON ROYAL

Sorry Stefani, but you chose the wrong vocalist this time. We must admit, Royal’s vocals tended to favor The Weeknd’s very seamlessly throughout this performance and this benefitted him in the end. However, Leone still held her own on this one even though this song truly suited her counterparts vocals better. The duo performed it well, but Stefani chose Royal because she felt he “worked the stage and was “natural.” Fortunately, Levine wisely stole Leone because there is something there within her vocals and stage presence that need to be further explored. Leone may ultimately end up being better suited for Team Adam in the long run.

TEAM ALICIA

LAURYN JUDD VS. LILLI PASSERO, “EVERY LITTLE BIT HURTS” BY BRENDA HOLLOWAY

WINNER: LILLI PASSERO

Both contestants brought something different to the table vocally and personality wise, but Passero stole the show and justly won the battle. There is a strength, clarity, and awareness present within Passero’s voice that isn’t as apparent within Judd’s. Now, this could be due to experience since Judd is only 17 years old. However, we think she need’s to grow into their vocals as their is potential for her to really be powerful. Judd has the energy that is slightly lacking within Passero (she steps it up in this department towards the end), but Passero still rightfully deserves the final spot on Team Alicia.
