The Weeknd’s “Beauty Behind the Madness” Goes Double Platinum + Announces 88th Annual Academy Awards Performance

In addition to his seven 2016 GRAMMY Award®nominations and his very first Academy Award® and Brit® nods, THE WEEKND’s critically acclaimed, chart-dominating third full-length album, Beauty Behind The Madness [XO/Republic Records], receives a double-platinum certification from the RIAA for sales in excess of 2,000,000 copies. It’s yet another milestone in the multi-platinum visionary’s storied career thus far.

Following a supreme streak at the top and three consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Top 200, Beauty Behind The Madness stands nominated for “Album of the Year” and “Best Urban Contemporary Album” at the GRAMMY Awards®—broadcast live from Los Angeles February 15, 2016. In addition, the inescapable quadruple-platinum “Can’t Feel My Face” vies for “Best Pop Solo Performance” and “Record of the Year.” His quadruple-platinum contribution to the Fifty Shades of Grey Original Motion Picture Soundtrack“Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey),” is nominated in three categories—“Best Song Written for Visual Media,” “Best R&B Performance, and “Best R&B Song. In addition to the nominations the Recording Academy recently announced that THE WEEKND will also perform at this year’s ceremony.

Keeping in tune with his award season domination, “Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey)”garnered THE WEEKND his first ever Academy Award® nomination in the category of “Best Original Song. Overseas, THE WEEKND was nominated for a prestigious Brit Award in the “Best International Male Solo Artist”.

Other RIAA certifications from the album include “The Hills” going seven-times platinum, “Can’t Feel My Face” and “Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey)” achieving five-time platinum status, and “Often” becoming double-platinum.

One of this generation’s most recognizable and revered voices, he’s made history on multiple occasions. “The Hills” clutched #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for six consecutive weeks, and he became the “First male to top Hot 100Billboard 100and Artist 100 simultaneously” and the “First artist to ever simultaneously hold top 3 slots on Billboard’s R&B Chart.” Meanwhile, Beauty Behind The Madness is the “First album to surpass over 100 million global audio streams debut week.

THE WEEKND closed out 2015 with The Madness Tour, selling out arenas across North America. Next up, he hits the road internationally with Rihanna on the ANTI- Tour.
