The Wind and The Wave Signs with Island Records + Announces New Single – Details!

image002Austin, Texas-based duo The Wind and The Wave, newest signing to Island Records, released their brand new single, “Grand Canyon,” the first advance track from their long-awaited second album, HAPPINESS IS NOT A PLACE, produced by Butch Walker, due later this year.

Currently on a mini-tour of their native Lone Star State, The Wind and The Wave will make a stop at the intimate Pianos on New York’s Lower East Side on May 24th.  A week later on May 30th, the duo will kick off a summer tour of the U.S. and Canada opening for Iceland band Kaleo, who now also make Austin their home.  (See all tour dates below.)  The Wind and The Wave have previously toured with Stereophonics, Bob Schneider, Jamestown Revival, Bare Naked Ladies, the Colourist, Norway’s Bernhoft, and others; and have performed at such major U.S. festivals as SXSW, Bonnaroo, Firefly, Summerfest, and Forecastle.  In 2014, they opened for Fun. and Bruce Springsteen at the NCAA March Madness Music Festival in Dallas.

HAPPINESS IS NOT A PLACE is the much-anticipated follow-up to The Wind and The Wave’s debut album of 2014, From The Wreckage (RCA), which included the Top 30 AAA track, “With Your Two Hands.”  The duo soon found their songs being sync’d on TV in The Vampire Diaries, Nashville, Killer Women, Supernatural, Hart of Dixie, Quantico, iZombie, and Grey’s Anatomy, which featured their cover of Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars.”  That cover eventually made it to #1 on Shazam’s USA Future Hits chart.  (The Wind and The Wave also re-recorded Simple Minds’ “Don’t You Forget About Me” and Cyndi Lauper’s “Time after Time” for the ABC series).

The Wind (Dwight Baker) and The Wave (Patricia Lynn), best friends whose mantra is “If it feels forced, f*** it,” met in 2009, when Matchbox Studios owner Dwight ventured out to a club one night to see a local band; Patty’s previous band was the opener and Dwight was captivated.  He showed an interest in working with her, and a creative partnership was born.  The two describe themselves as being “cut from the same thread” and “rarely on different pages.”

By 2012, Dwight and Patty had started a writing group with a bunch of friends, an idea, Dwight admits, they “ripped off directly from [supportive fellow Austin singer-songwriter] Bob Schneider.”  The discipline led them to churn out a song a week for six months.  “It was just, ‘Let’s get really high, drink lots of whiskey, and write for the f*** of it,” Dwight says. “That’s how it all started.”  The Wind and The Wave’s first shows together were opening for Schneider.
