Tinashe Splits With RCA Records

In an amicable break-up, Tinashe has made the decision to part ways with RCA over creative differences.

Tinashe’s manager Mike Nazzaro addressed the recent rumors about her being dropped from the label. “We initiated for her to be released,” he said. “It was a positive split for her. Her relationship with RCA was a long-term relationship, but they needed space.

“It was time to part ways,” Nazzaro added.

RCA signed Tinashe to their label in 2012 and soon after released her debut album, Aquarius, in 2014. It led to the release of the Nightride mixtape and then the Joyride album, with collaborations with hip-hop stars Future and indie darlings (Little Dragon).

Tinashe has previously mentioned that she didn’t feel like her music fit with the label’s pop or urban departments. During an interview with Lena Dunham in 2016, Tinashe alleged that the label pushed her to record a song she wasn’t too content about recording. “I couldn’t, as an artist, get behind the lyrics.”

She posted a screenshot of Rolling Stone’s published article about the split on Instagram with emojis signaling a sense of freedom. Check out the post below:

As for the future, Nazzaro said “she’s excited for this next step in her career” and they’re trying to decide who they might want to partner up with next. And ICYMI, Tinashe is no longer listed on RCA’s roster page on its website.
