Disney Channel‘s newest DCOM Upside-Down Magic is officially dropping this Friday and Celeb Secrets has the scoop on what you can expect straight from the stars!
According to the network, Upside-Down Magic follows 13-year-old Nory Boxwood Horace (played by Izabela Rose) who discovers she can flux into animals, and her best friend Reina Carvajal (played by Siena Agudong) can manipulate flames. Together, they enter the Sage Academy for Magical Studies.
Reina’s expert ability to harness the power of fire lands her at the top of her class of “Flares,” but Nory’s wonky magic and proclivity for turning into a “Dritten”—a half-kitten, half-dragon—lands her in a class for those with upside-down magic, otherwise known as UDM.
While Headmaster Knightslinger believes the UDM’s unconventional powers leave them vulnerable to dangerous and evil “shadow magic,” Nory and her fellow UDM classmates set out to prove that upside-down magic beats right-side up.
“The power of friendship is in [Upside-Down Magic],” Siena tells Celeb Secrets over Zoom. “Nory and Reina are separated and kind of go through waves of communication; if they were just to communicate with each other, then their mental health would be so much better throughout the movie and it shows that you need to be there for each other and make a good solid effort to continue communicating.”
“I really hope that people do take away the messages in this movie while celebrating differences, self-acceptance and true friendship,” Izabela adds. “I think especially in the world we are today it’s even more important. With social pressuring, you think you have to look like a certain person to be accepted, but not really. Your differences are what make you special and I hope that people do take away that you should accept your differences because it’s what makes you, you.”
Celeb Secrets (virtually) sits down with Izabela and Siena to learn more about the film, including their favorite scenes, their initial reactions when booking their roles, and the DCOM’s important messages of friendship and inclusion.
