What To Expect In Fashion For The 2021 Golden Globes

As our favorite celebrities prepare to attend the 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, we are highly anticipating what bold fashion statements will be made at the virtual event. The Golden Globes held a virtual roundtable with Hollywood’s top stylists moderated by the fashion editor of the Golden Globes website, Margaret Gardiner, and Golden Globe ambassadors Satchel and Jackson Lee.

Although the award show will be held a bit differently this year, it definitely won’t stop guests from showing up in their very best ‘fits!

Fashion stylist, Avo Yermagyan, is styling Hamilton’s Leslie Odom Jr. this year, and definitely feels the pressure of making a statement at this year’s show.

“This year, the stakes are much higher,” Yermagyan tells the roundtable, “There’s been a vacuum with no carpets happening, there’s going to be a lot of eyes on these carpets. I wanted to honor the tone of the film… a cultural awakening; which is something all of us faced this last year.”

Stylist, Sophie Lopez, who is styling actress and nominee, Kate Hudson, talks about the styling process of a virtual award show and how there are some things they are able to do now that they wouldn’t be able to do at an in-person live event.

“We are able to cheat in ways we couldn’t if it was an in-person event,” Lopez reveals, “we can safety pin things, we don’t have to worry about tripping over long hemlines.”

She also reveals that she has yet to decide on an outfit for Hudson for Sunday’s big event. “We don’t know yet! Very last-minute on this one. Hopefully, we’ll have a dress at some point,” she shares with the roundtable.

The group of stylists also talk about how they want to be mindful of the current situation of the world. Fashion is a huge element of award shows, and these stylists want to make sure while giving audiences an enjoyable viewing experience, they want to be more delicate with their styling decisions.

Yermagyan goes more in-depth about the topic, saying, “For me, it’s more important to be mindful of the tone we’re putting out there; the fact that people are facing real struggles, and although we want to give them beautiful moments and escapism, we still want to make sure that we’re sensitive to what the world is going through.”

We are so excited to see what these top stylists have in store for this Sunday! Along with dressing our favorite celebrities, the stylists also gave tips and advice for the audience on how we can upscale our quarantine fashion.

Tara Sweenen, who’s dressing Golden Globe nominee Jane Levy, advises to “take the moment. I’ve always been a champion of sustainable eco fashion, less is more these days – try and use your consumer power to evoke good with fashion however you can – re-wear stuff in your closet, shop with purpose, feel good about yourself.”

“Right now, the way style has changed, the lack of places we have to go to dress up – I say if you’re wearing pants with not an elastic waist on them, you’re doing great,” says stylist, Brad Goreski. Goreski is styling actress and nominee, Kayley Cuoco.
