Nicki Minaj is headed to the VMAs!
The global superstar is set to receive MTV’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 MTV VMAs later this month, marking her first time on the VMAs stage since 2018.
The 17x nominated and 5x VMAs winner, who took home her first Moon Person for “Best Hip Hop Video” in 2011, will also perform a medley of her greatest hits during the live show. She joins a list of previous honorees that include Madonna, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliott among others.
“Nicki has broken barriers for women in hip-hop with her versatility and creative artistry,” said Bruce Gillmer, President of Music, Music Talent, Programming & Events, Paramount and Chief Content Officer, Music, Paramount+. “She has shifted the music industry and cemented her status as a global superstar with her crossover appeal, genre-defying style and continuing to be unapologetically ‘Nicki’.”
Minaj joins an already star-studded list of performers at the VMAs this year, as Anitta, J Balvin, Marshmello x Khalid and Panic! At The Disco will also be making their way to the VMAs stage for unforgettable performances.
Last month, the network announced its star-studded nominees, with Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Nas X leading the pack with seven nominations each, followed by Doja Cat and Harry Styles with six. Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd are also big nominees, as they are up for five Moon Person awards each. The 2022 MTV VMAs will air LIVE from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on Sunday, August 28th @ 8PM ET/PT on MTV.
